I don't remember if this was the thread that we were having the "GSP moving up to fight Silva" debate, but here is a link that is very relevant to that debate.

Basically, GSP says if he goes up to 185, it will be permanent.
I think that was in the UFC 108 thread.

Huh, I'm kinda surprised. As you said, his disadvantage is his height and reach at middleweight. Sounds like he's not planning on doing if for a while. I don't think there's anyone that will beat him at welterweight, but I think there are others he should fight there before going up. It would be best for him to fight A. silva when he's at 185 permanently, but silva is almost 35 years old and could be past his prime if they fight in a few years and that always leaves doubts.

Even better.I just learned about it a short while ago.

copy of the sherdog article on today's press conference:

UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar has recovered from an illness that threatened his career and he will fight this summer.

Lesnar and UFC President Dana White ended months of speculation Wednesday when they addressed Lesnar’s health on the 11 a.m. ET edition of “SportsCenter” and stated that Lesnar will fight the winner of the March 27 interim title bout between Shane Carwin and Frank Mir.

Lesnar spoke soberly of his illness. He had been expected to fight Shane Carwin in November, but he dropped out of the bout and said Wednesday that initially he had been diagnosed with mononucleosis. However, when he took a trip to Canada to get his mind off the fight’s cancellation, he experienced severe stomach pain.

“One night I woke up and I was in severe shock,” Lesnar said. “I had a 104 temperature. I felt like I was shot in the guts.”

Lesnar returned to the U.S., where he was diagnosed at Medcenter One in Bismarck, N.D., with a severe case of diverticulitis. The champion described the disease by saying he had a hole in his stomach. He said he was given antibiotics and pain medication.

“The doctor there … wanted for me to heal myself,” Lesnar said. “Versus the other side of it, was to go in, remove part of my colon and wear a colostomy bag and pretty much end my career.”

Lesnar said he was fed through an IV during an 11-day hospital stay that saw him lose 40 pounds. He visited the Mayo Clinic next, where he said doctors suggested he needed surgery.

“Forget about the career side,” White said. “This guy was looking at a completely different life, a different quality of life if he would have needed this surgery.”

With the possibility of surgery looming, Lesnar returned to the gym. He added 30 pounds back on, and when he returned for more tests, doctors were stunned by the results.

“They were dumbfounded,” Lesnar said. “They couldn’t find any signs of any problem in my stomach. It’s just a miracle.”

Lesnar attested to the power of the mind during his “SportsCenter” interview. He thanked his family, friends and the UFC for standing by him.

“I take my hat off to the doctors at Medcenter One for saving my life and my career,” he added.

White said that the winner of the Feb. 21 bout between Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Cain Velasquez could also produce a challenger for Lesnar’s return if there is an issue with the winner of Carwin-Mir.

Good to hear.

I don't care what people say about him. I've been a Brock Lesnar fan since 2001.

Wow... im so glad to hear he recovered in such a way. Cant wait to see him back in the ring. Im actually going for Mir (his March fish) so Brock can knock him out again this Summer

i think anderson plans on retiring soon. he's already said that before and he only has like 3 fights left i think on his contract. he's the goat at 185 and he won't fight machida so hopefully shogun wins the rematch and maybe anderson and shogun can fight.

don't mind if machida wins either, they can still match shogun with anderson. i'd just like to see anderson retire with 2 belts

dont' know if already posted but rampage is fighting rashad finally

Roy Nelson vs. Stefan Struve @ UFC Fight Night 21

Looks like Dana didn't do Roy any favors for winning TUF.
Welcome to the real heavyweight division Roy, and welcome to the world of learning how to cut weight.
Struve is gonna run all over Nelson.
I think it was obvious that Dana did'nt like the guy.Nelson must have gotten under White's skin with all of his brash sillyness.I'm looking to see Struve take him to school.

I'm actually rooting for Roy. I like him. I like it that Dana didn't like him and he just kept winning his fights. Dana clearly stated his dislike of Roy but he also said that would change if he kept winning which he did. Then after the finale, Dana finally gave him some props. I think Roy is a pretty dangerous fighter for a fat guy. He's dangerous because he has good foot work, he circles to the right when fighting right handed strikers and he's got decent take downs. When he's got someone down he lays that fat belly on you and there's no way of getting up if you're tired. He's not former IFL champ for nothing.

He's only got 3 decision losses and been tko'd once by Andrei Arlovski. No shame in that. He's stopped 7 guys by ko/tko and subbed 4 guys and only decisioned a win 3 times. That's pretty impressive if you look at the guy physically.

both guys have only fought against a top 10 once and both guys lost those fights. I think Struve's biggest advantage is his height and length. If he stays on the outside and use his reach it could be a long night for Roy. Or take it to the ground and work for subs. Struve may even get knocked out
