i actually would dismiss them. they will not become a champ in the current rosters. that doesn't mean they can't compete as condenders but that's as far as it will go. first, they will have to beat all the other contenders which getting pass them will not be easy. only kos, maynard, swick, diego, kenny, stevenson, forrest, bisping and rashad are actually the only tuf guys that has a good chance at contending for the titles right now (out of what? over 100 TUF contestants? less than 10%) and the few guys had the chances and failed miserably. but they will still be able to battle it out to get in line for the title, but if they pass that to get a title shot, they will fail.
When I first mentioned the comparison with the other TUF guys, I was talkling about the TUF winners. Those are the guys I listed, so no, it's not 10%, because I am talking about the guys who have won TUF, they should have higher expectations/hopes.
but this is mma, you can always pull a matt serra,........... but very unlikely
i'm not arguing roy still needs to prove himself, i'm just saying, stefan struve is no better than roy as far as where they stand in the ranks. struve has only fought one top contender and got knocked out. his other losses were not even against guys who are considered legit
I agree that as far as the ranks go, they are similar. I'm not saying Struve is going to win because he is ranked higher or lower, I am saying that he is going to win because I think he is better then Roy.
their fight will prove who is gonna move on, and it could go either way. my bet is on roy though, that's all i'm saying. neither guy is gonna "run over" the other. to say so would be silly. that's where this whole thing started
i only brought up fedor to prove a point. you're basically putting roy down because he's so fat,............ he should drop to 205 because he's smaller. you said he's apparently lazy, uncommitted or whatever. this is all based on his looks. so i brought up fedor who is one of the smallest hw in the world but considered by many to be #1 p4p. looks has nothing to do with it, that's my point,............. not comparing their skills or accomplishments at all. just the fact that looks dont' determine if someone is lazy or basically worthless and should drop weight
I totally get the point about not going on looks, as someone who covers mma at the local level, I see first hand that physique does not show who will win a fight. I am simply taking Roy's physique, which is a gross misuse of that rule, and saying that it is indicative of who he is, that he is not totally committed. My issue is not with guys who aren't ripped, my issue is just that I think he gives up way too much by having that weight. If two guys are walking into the cage and they weigh the same, but one has a huge gut (30-40lbs?) that is going to equal into something else for the other guy, and likely it's not going to be a gut. It will likely be, muscle, or height, and in the heavyweight class, I just don't think that is a recipe for longterm success.
