Boxing, Glory 7 (kickboxing) and UFC this weekend. Should be a good weekend for fight fans. The UFC fights are pretty solid for a free card.

Josh Rosenthal got busted with 1300+ plants of maryjane. We won't see him reffing any time soon.

I won't be home, but I got my dvr set

I like gil and ben, but if I go with my gut, I say ben wins via good striking and superior wrestling

I got cormier by tko in the second

I can't believe I freaking missed it. Glad Cormier took a step towards a title shot but bummed that gilbert lost. I see it was a split decision...anyone have a problem with the decision?

Pwmin you missed a great night of fights. This card tied the ufc record for most knock outs in one event.

Awesome prelims, awesome main card. Nate Diaz gets finished for the first time. Some good ufc debuts. I felt Ben won at least 3 of the 5 rds. But it was close. Awesome free card. Would've been happy if I payed for it.

Henderson and Josh Thomson showed what legs kicks can really do. The visual on diaz and melendezs knees were awful. Although I think henderson did enough to take the fight but I can see where some would think melendez took the fight.

Cormier vs mir was a big let down for me. Mir looked real good and this fight fit him well. He did nothing to make the fight go his way. Never went for a takedown and had only one submission attempt that was weak for Mir. Not impressed with cormier at all. I don't see him taking on cain or jds and coming with wins. He wants to fight at 205 but I don't think is performance warrants a shot at the top 2 fighters in either class.

I was really impressed at the undercard fights. Love me some knockouts!!!!!!!

I agree with all of this.
I had Henderson up 3-2, pretty close fight though.
I expected Cormier to try and make a statement, but he fought relatively safe considering Mir offered no offense.
Pretty solid card though.

anyways, I just saw this today. interesting, one of the judges that judged the gil/ben fight runs a Cesar Gracie affiliate.

@danawhite the judge who scored it for Gil, wade vierra is a Cesar Gracie JJ affiliate/student? How is that legal? #ufc #ufconfox7

CSAC judge Wade Vierra runs an affiliate school of Team Cesar Gracie, and Gil Melendez is a Team Cesar Gracie brown belt, as confirmed by a brief google search.

csac screwed up as well as the judge. he should've changed with another judge to do a different fight. this judge is the only one who scored the fight for gil. not that another judge wouldn't have scored it for gil, but for the conflict of interest issue, csac should've never allowed it, or they didn't know and this judge should be punished or something. imagine the controversy it would've stirred if gil won by split decision and this judge was the deciding factor. and if it was the other way around, cesar gracie's camp would've cried bloody murder

Yep, that's a pretty big error, especially knowing how close all of the Cesar Gracie guys are. As you said, it was close and another judge might have scored it for Melendez anyway, but they can't let this happen or it will start to look rigged.
