Okay,I just watched the fight and I don't know about you guys but despite the rather quick stoppage it did not look to me as though Chael was going to hold out much longer had the ref not acted.He did not appear to be in any position to defend himself against those strikes or get Jones off of him and get to his feet to where Jones' injury would be a factor.
 
Ya, I'm not arguing with the stoppage. But if he would have lasted 27sec, the ref would have seen the broken toe between rounds and wouldn't have let Jones come out for round two. In fact, Jones corner probably would have stopped the fight since the bone was sticking through the skin.
 
He looked like he was on his way to getting knocked out if the ref hadn't stopped it.
 
the reason why I say it was too soon is because in the main event, and a title fight, you don't want to leave any room for controversy. I don't dispute it, but I don't think chael was done just yet. And it may have just ended in him going to sleep but so be it. a lot of times a guy will cover up to weather the storm. i'm all for safety first but I feel he was taking some shots to his arms and hands. but I know he ate some clean elbows too though. jon went for the kill and to get the ref to step in which he did his job. i'm ok with it, but at the same time, i'd be ok with it going a little longer
 
I agree with all of that.I was saying that Chael looked as if he would soon be knocked out in response to the comments about him lasting or holding out for twenty seven seconds.I think he would have been out before that amount of time ran down..Hypothetical but I think another ten seconds from the stoppage point and he would have been sleep.

I'm with Kric, Jones obviously new his toe was broken and i'm guessing he knew the ref would probably have stopped it when the round ended, but Sonnen wouldn't of lasted 10 more seconds if the ref didn't stop it when he did. Did you see Sonnen, he was banged up. Jones would of broken him if the barrage of punches went on. Even if Chael had won because of Jones injury it still wouldn't of been a ''win'' because he clearly lost that round. Jones was going to win 9/10 and I think the only way anyone if going to beat him is a sneaky submission. He has more reach then Struve ffs. Belfort did come close though.
