Monster 822 gallon (ext) aquarium build thread

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats on the purchase.....Can't wait to see this big boy filled up !

thanks nomad, I was hoping to have it filled and cycling this week, but my last Nuclear canister is due to arrive somewhere from the 2-8, considering how long the project has tanking me thus far and my luck, it wil lprobably arrive on the 8th.

You are doing all the things that I hope to some day do on my tank (heating, UV sterilizing, air stones, autowaterchanger) so that's why I have so many questions. Brace yourself, here they come:

Are you having to dose any water conditioner, or do those RO looking filters remove all the chlorine/chloramines?

Does the auto water changer drip into the sump? Where does the displaced/excess water spill out to?

Definitely curious to see which is quieter...your Dart or the air pump. Specifically interested in that air pump since I'm in the market for one. Are you going to run all three air stones? If possible, I would love to see a video of them to see how much air they push.

Lookin awesome Fred! Keep those updates and pix coming.

Hey Alex
I am trying to do all the thing to make this tank as enjoyable as possible. Though some people love tank maintenance and water changes, I can't lie, I am not one of them. I don't mind the maintenace, but not to that extreme so after having my 300 gallon, I swore if I ever upgraded tanks, an auto water system was a must.
- I don't have to does any conditioner at all, my water only has chlorine in it, so the two heavy duty carbon canitser are enough so that the water entering my tank is safe for the fish. Its designed to drip about 350 gallon a week. Once the system is up and cycled I will start the auto drip system and monitor the water parameters and will know for sure if it's totally safe. That's not to say I won't keep a large bottle of prime handy. lol
I will be drilling a small hole in the top back of the tanks's acrylic and installing the blue tube (sealed it in) in the middle of the tank where the water will drip into the aquarium. Then to keep it simple as possible but safe, I will be drilling a hole in the wet/dry above the dediated over flow line, so when the water reaches this over flow line it will flow out the overflow tube and into the back yard into the grass. Kind of how you aircondition unit drips out water. Also inline with that, there will be an auto water shut off valve in the event there is a clog of some sort and the wet/dry are not draining proplerly the cutoff swith will shut the main water line off. If I explained that clear enough.:)
I too am curious to see how much noise all this will make as well, I am going for as silent as possible even if i have to install some type of sound dampnieng material on the back off the door panels.
Thanks and I will keep the pics coming, though I have never did a video, my camera is capable, just need to know where to download them and how to embed them, like I do the pics through photobucket.

Looking forward to these answers too! I can't believe I missed this thread! Wow that's a sweet tank! Love it! Now I'm motivated to get my new 120 finished and fully backgrounded..........

To my surprise, the third Nu clear Cansiter came in today and my Jehmco 1000 watt titanium heater with digital controller two outlets in the event the one heater is not enough, i can hook a second one up to the controller. I don't think I will need a scond one with the UV and reeflo dart pump... I should be fine. To bad I can't start the plumbing tonight. Commited to taking the wife out for a night of Jazz and comedy, plus my LSU tiger are playing BAMA...
