I'm planning a community tank full of large fish and am looking for suggestions. The tank will be acrylic with dimensions of either 8x4x2.5 or 12x4x2.5. So far I'm thinking a red belly pacu, a shoal of 5-7 tinfoils, and /or maybe a giant gourami. I want omnivores/scavengers that will eat pellets etc. Ideally between 1-2' long. I'm looking to avoid highly aggressive fish such as dovi, umbee etc. unless they will be compatible with the above. What other fish should I consider that meet this criteria?

black or silver arowana, uuaru cichlids, Petenia splendida (snook), gar, peacock bass (excepting temensis), hepsetus odoe, mid-large sized centrarchids (sunfish, bass), clarias catfish, bala sharks (would likely school right with the tinfoil barbs), silver dollars, any large plecostomus species, channel catfish, bullhead catfish, carp/koi, clown knife, ornate/endlicheri bichirs, fire eel, large Malawi hap cichlids such as Nimbochromis sp. and D. comprecisseps, large frontosa, any of the midsized-small Central/South American cichlids like JDs convicts rainbow cichlids green terror salvini istlanum grammodes, large/midsized Geophagus sp. cichlids

heck, you could purchase a bunch of Malawi mbuna cichlids and just let 'em roam; if they get eaten no big deal, though I doubt they would.

As long as you stay away from the big brusier cichlids (dovii, umbie, festae, trimacs, fenestratus, buttis, temensis you should be alright.) Whay not try some of the larger pike cichlids like crencichla stragata?

I'm looking for the 1-2 foot range so the big cats are out and no plecos b/c its an acrylic tank. I would love a clown knife or arowana but I believe they are too picky when it comes to food. I want to stick to non-live food that all the fish will eat. Good effort p45. Anything else?

Substitute bagdad cats for the channels and angulatus hatchets for the aros. Good luch finding the hatchets though, I've only seen them for sale twice in 30 years.

I think I may have found my fish. Bocourti perhaps? They get good size are omnivores and are relatively peaceful. Has anyone kept these fish? Opinions?

are you serious?! you have a monster tank and you're going to put some sh*tty pacu and tin foil in your tank?!

I'd say forget about those fishes and get some rare monsters. stingrays, arowanas, catfishes, and some mid-water fish like african tiger, siamese tiger, tarpon, masheer sp., etc etc etc.

Agree with Ming. I would put show fishes in there. Not a lot of people have the luxury of having a monster tank. Since you already have one, might as well go all out and get the show stopping fishes.
