I meant Piaractus brachypomus. In my country they called them red-bellied pacu(s).Are you talking about red bellied piranha. I’ve not heard that piranha can breath air even though Pacu are essentially herbivorous piranha.

Interesting. The fish profile https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/piaractus-brachypomus/ says that juvenile red bellied pacu indeed mimic red bellied paranha to warn off potential predators. Closely related to tambaque, it is also widely fish farmed as it can tolerate low oxygen water, so I would assume it can also breathe air.I meant Piaractus brachypomus. I guess that’s one way to save on shipping costs. Hard to believe goldfish can survive in just a humid bag! Some commercial fish farms ship goldfish in a sedated, oxygenated, waterless environment. The process usually involves:
Temporarily sedating the fish, Lowering their metabolism by refrigerating them, and packing them in high-oxygen, humid bags with just enough moisture to keep their gills wet.
I've seen live Asian carp sold in fish markets in bucket without water. I am not sure if Asian carp can breathe air directly, but apparently, they can stay alive for hours out of water

I cannot find any reference that says Hujeta gar can breathe air. Hujeta gar is a characin, not a true gar which can breathe air.
