Some commercial fish farms ship goldfish in a sedated, oxygenated, waterless environment. The process usually involves:
Temporarily sedating the fish, Lowering their metabolism by refrigerating them, and packing them in high-oxygen, humid bags with just enough moisture to keep their gills wet.

I've seen live Asian carp sold in fish markets in bucket without water. I am not sure if Asian carp can breathe air directly, but apparently, they can stay alive for hours out of water
I guess that’s one way to save on shipping costs. Hard to believe goldfish can survive in just a humid bag!

I cannot find any reference that says Hujeta gar can breathe air. Hujeta gar is a characin, not a true gar which can breathe air.
