at 12inches it's going into a 5x3x2, it's previous tank was 5x2x2. from your experiences/knowledge, do you think the mouth can be healed?

The problem here is that it will have a hard & difficult time to recover.

Why?

well as it get's bigger it will just keep bashing it's face in the tank. It's coming from a 5x2 to 5x3? IMO, not too much room unless you were like upgrading to a 10x4x30 or something close.

My 15" GATF back in the day was headed towards this. It was great and a perfect specimen to reach 15" but even my 600 would have been quite small for it eventually.

Not to say you can't grow out a primo specimen in 600, but dependent on the amount of tank mates it has to spook it and cause it to bash it's face on the walls plays a big factor.

But like everyone said, if you can get it for a great price why not. Room for negotiations there.

Again, based on opinion. I'm far from being an expert... those words can get me shot here in So.Cal...LOL..hahaha

I would pay $500.00-700.00 (us). For the fish, From what i've seen they heal like SUPER fish. Just add a lot of salt and he'll be perfect. jmo gl With it!

That's real good advice. I did'nt see the tank size. imo Eight foot would be the least length i would keep a Goliath in that's ten inches plus. They are a very skittish fish. And swim with alot of force.. Hence the Bashed snout.
Gl Man i hope it work's out for you!

:D

armatuses-15"
Goliath-14"
vittatus-14"
tank size-4x1.5x1.5

no use flaming, they were moved to a larger tank, then got killed by infection several months later. all the fish were healthy with no fights, they all got to +-18inches later on in a 522. all im saying is that i never believed goliaths needed huge(as in, ridiculously huge) tanks, maybe just peaceful tankmates?

okay here goes. i might be getting a goliath atf, but the snout is pretty badly damaged. at 12inches it's going into a 5x3x2, it's previous tank was 5x2x2. from your experiences/knowledge, do you think the mouth can be healed?

That is why i stated this..

"Not to say you can't grow out a primo specimen in 600, but dependent on the amount of tank mates it has to spook it and cause it to bash it's face on the walls plays a big factor"

Also, I wasn't trying to flame? =-)

thanks! makes much sense. the 5x3 would only have 2 cuban gars and a spotted gar. which i hope would leave the gatf alone. if not, it's solitary grow out for a bit.

wasn't directing the post at your reply mate. im thinking it has a lot to do with tankmates rather than just size too.

it's cool, i was just warding off the tide of flaming that mightttt have come. and not from you, or any of the helpful guys who've posted on so far. just perhaps members who might shoot before knowing more about the subject at hand:)

Here was my 15" GATF a few years back.

See the elongated snout. The perfect rectangular shape...This boy was sexy..

However, if he grew any bigger in my tank the perfect snout would have probably ended up the same as the one you pictured.

Here in the US I believe the biggest GATF was that of Tigerfangs which he sold when it was about 20".. It went from a 900 Gallon tank to a smaller one. If you were to compare the pictures from before and after, you will see the effect as the nose started to get blunted because of the size of the tank.

I think it is something un-avoidable... these in nature are FAST, POWERFUL fish.

Have you seen the show Congo MonsterFish? pm your address and I'll send you a copy =-)
