Monster grass carp spotted! What to use?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'll try it, but it's hard to find him.
It's the only one I see in the lake. I did have hotdog at the time, but I thought grass carp are strictly vegitarian. What the best time to fish for it?

usually first light or dusk is the best time for catching carp

or if its a hot sunny day and he's basking near the top try bread flake floating on the surface

Its hots everyday here in Florida. ;)
Then I guess he was basking, he just sat up at the surface most of the time.

lol, lucky you .. usually cold in the uk :irked:

yeah if he's on the top a bit of bread flake should tempt him

try and get him feeding on small bits of bread before you put out a baited hook

see my post above... meat fished on the bottom will nail it

its more than possible it was 4-5ft long
they can easily grow in excess of that

this one is 35lb and ive seen pics of bigger still

WOW I have seen them but not like that monster. Thats just huge

Wait till you see mine, it will be just as big if not bigger! :D
I can't wait for dusk! Oh and another question, can he smell his food say, several meters away? I was pretty much sight fishing (which I hate) for him today and only saw him about 7-6 times. I would like it if I can just throw it out and wait.

Well the water was clear, and whenever it saw my bait, it just swam away. How do grass carp locate food? By smell? Should I use something smelly? And this thing is huge, I would surely takes picutures. It's at least 4 feet long, if not 5 feet. Also, I'm not expert on IDing carp, but it was torpedo shaped, and had huge golden scales.

I have had same thing happened as you. Carp had no interest in the bait. I tried earthworms and chicken gizzards but nothing .

They are only about 2 feet in my area . I have heard 4 ft in some areas so you certainly saw one.
I was going to go today for them but pouring rain. I was going to try SPAM lol.

Well ,we need the rain .

I'll try meat, but I sure hope I can catch this guy, it's was so big when I first saw it I couldn't get over it! Who knew little retention ponds can have such big fish?! But then again no one at this place really keeps thier catch. Also, it's almost like this is the only grass carp in the pond. Never seen one in there and I fish it all the time. The wierd part is, I recall seeing something just like this guy when I was 8. Same one? who knows? And all I want is a picture!

here is a pic of the grasscarp caught out of my dad's pond. We caught them by hand using a seine net as a fence. Smallest one was 32 inches and 22 lbs and the largest was 42 inches and 33 lbs. The grass carp dont usually bite on anything. You could try some carp bait like corn or the carp marshmallows. Your best bet would be to spear it or use a bow and arrow. But have another person to help hold on, these fish have explosive power.
