Monster grass carp spotted! What to use?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
To tell you the truth, I've never really used braided line before.
I'm not sure why, but I usually stick to flourocarbon and mono.
Also, I dont think 7 pound test will hold up with this guy, when I snagged him, he ran FAST! If I keep my drag low he'll run me out of line.

Oh okay, how big is the area you are fishing for him?

Braided line is tuff as nails, it's stronger than standard line.

I reckon when you hook him, let him go for a run, when he slows down, wind him in,then let him go for a run again, make sure you got plenty of line of course, and just keep doing this til he tires out, it could take you 15 minutes or so though, lol.

The area I fish is a large retention pond. Not a lake, but it sure has room for him to run out all my line. My reel isn't very big, but it cost me a lot so I'm not about to go out and buy another larger, more expensive one lol.
It can't hold a ton of line, that's why I wanted to know what kind of line, what pound test, and I'll get braid, is it easily spotted? This monster is easily spooked if you get in his range of sight.

Nah it's fairly thin, so you wont spot it, especially in water. A lot of people here use Braided line for Barramundi fishing, and those buggers are tough, 8D

lol yes same here once they see me than BOOM they take off . Here they are in canal so they just take off and keep on going..

The few times I have seen the local canal carps I have to cast by them from a distance because if I get close they take off.
There is a 2 foot local carp thats always in same canal.

I have cast right in front of him/her and no interest at all. A tricky fish to catch indeed.

Any look catching the carp yet? Get it netted or at least take a pic of it as its swimming arround the lake. I cant wait to see it.

Ok, I might as well get a pic of it in the lake.
It may be a week or two, as it has been raining non-stop here in Florida.
I also noticed this guy travels around the lake when it rains, I'm pretty much just studying him right now, where he usually stays, how he spooks, what he eats, etc. The good thing is I did see him take a clump of algae of the surface, so maybe floating bread will work?

The thing is, there's so much food in this lake for this carp it eats only when it wants too. If it see's just a clump of algae, well, there's more right next to it, and there, over there, everywhere! I don't think it will make much of a difference, I have to try something tempting.

P.S.
Like the new barra avater! :D
