I've had it over the same smooth black gravel substrate all my others are on. You should definitely go get one, I'm thinking about it.

I haven't had time to check on my bichirs lately due to the gars stealing all the attention. Where are the manners with kids nowadays.

Here's the pic of when I first got it and it was in quarantine in the same plastic bin, it's the smallest one in the center of the pic that is not a del 
The wide stripe del next to it is about 10" so I'm guessing I got the congicus at about 6" only 4 months ago.

If it goes to anyone else I rather see it go to Julian. He can have it since I already got one. I think I've learned the trick to growing them out now. Let me know when you're ready to do another order.
Yeah will do, I'm hoping next month. Mark and Kris will be jumping in the group order with us, so that will keep it cheap for all of us.
When you do large water changes, you have to be careful because of the temperature shift. Don't fill with full strength, I do about half strength from a sink faucet to fill my tank slowly to avoid stress.
During the summer it's not such a big deal, but in winter when the water comes out extra cold from the tap, you have to fill the tank slowly, and stop here and there for 5-10mins to let the heater catch up.
I've almost lost fish because of water changes during the winter.
It's not a regional variant, just a collection locale. I believe it is a lake in the Congo. The dels I got from that import were collected from somewhere along the congo river (yes, I feel cool saying that ) but it was not specifically listed from where.
