Congrats! That was a great catch.

What part of south Florida do you live in? I'm in Ft.Lauderdale if you wanna hook up and do some peacock fishing. The spawn has been in full effect the last two weeks. The one above was caught prespawn feeding on minnows on a gold x-rap.

I'm in the West Kendall area of Miami-Dade county. It's South and West of Fort Lauderdale. That back drop in your pic is similar to some corners of our local lake. I've noticed that the PB likes to feed in areas like those where they can basically herd the bait fish to a corner.

Our local lake have many beach areas with white sand. The PBs spawn near those areas. They spawn in other areas but they are much easier to spot where there is white sand.:)

Triple play Sunday.

Caught a Male and Female that were both over 17 inch and are a breeding pair. Took me over two hours though, to land both of them. In between catching them I took off on foot to another beach and caught a third fish, a 13 inch Female PB.

The first catch was a Female landed 15 minutes after first cast. Also hooked the male but it got away. The female being pretty with a lot of speckling, was taken home for my breeding tank. Went back after two hours and hooked the male again which jumped out of the water and went free when it splashed. Walked over to another beach where I spotted a couple of guys casting. Was just curious if they caught the pair there. As I approached one of the guys just landed a huge tilapia.

Went over to the spot where I saw the pair from the previous day and saw that they were still there. As I prepared to cast, one of the guys commented to forget about it as the fish were stubbornly ignoring baits. Went ahead with the cast anyway. Three cast later hooked and landed the smaller of the pair. Hooked the bigger fish too but it shook the hooks off. Decided to let the other fish go. Walked back to the other beach where I caught the monster Female. After about 5 minutes hooked and landed the monster male. Both are now acclimating in a 54 gallon tote conatainer.

we have peacock bass in hawaii too. state record is over 9lbs from Oahu. i use yozuri Pins Minnows normally . but for the big ones a live mosquito is the best. On Kaui theres even a resevoir that has PB charters.

Oh! I wish there were wild Peacock Bass near where I lived. Awesome photos and love the anecdotes that go with them.
