It sounds like someone fish-sitting for him killed his fish.The fish weren't/aren't cheap, besides they were his pets.

We still dont know what happened. How do we know it is 100% the sitters fault. I think we should get the whole story.

No, it is just property, but the court WILL take into account the value to replace the property with like property.

If the Eel was 33", it is the value of a 33" Eel that is in question. That much I do know.

Wrong.. Again it's the replacement value and to replace an adult fish with an adult is non-existant so you are forced to replace with a young "available" fish. Unless you can immediatly show fair market value for an adult. Which cannot be done.

Just like your dog story. If someone kills a pure breed DogX, and it's been in the familly for 10 years and is full grown but only puppys are availble for sale then you only get the cost of a new puppy or what you originally paid for it.

General rule is if it's under a few hundred bucks it's not worth suing for.
