The Tag Carrera automatic chronograph (aka Jeff Gordon watch) is one of my favorites for under $2k:

Its nice but its sort of related to nascar

I tried 2 omega speedmasters last night at the local jewelry store and im surprised
at the diameter.. they are a bit on the small size. Also tried 2 brietlings.. one was titanium
nice and thick.. but it looks like ive got a toy strapped on my wrist... and then there the big momma ...its a superocean (?) studded with diamonds.. about 9K...

Actually, the Carrera gets its name from the Carrera Panamericana, a famous road race across Mexico that was held in the 1950s and has recently been resurrected. The hottest Porsche 356s were named Carrera after that race and the name was later applied to the 911. Jeff Gordon just does the magazine ads for the watch.
