its even more impossible to get through to people like you that if people are taught responsibly how to handle weapons they can be effective tools that have other meanings than hurting people.. This countrys' founders used these very weapons to gain our independence and keep it, and they are still used to protect our way of life. I understand that they are used in the wrong way some of the time but to say that they should be illegal is an unproductive conclusion. I just hope that people with this opinion are never in a situation that they need protection for themselves or family and don't have it because of wrongly formed opinion or ignorance. It is your right not to have them but don't try to infringe on my right to enjoy them.. And although you found an article that conflicts(not disproves) my costitutional right to own firearms they are still legal which means I have the right to keep them.

Look, keep your gun, I'm not hoping to infringe on anyone's rights. Problem with guns is that people are irresponsible with them. People kill other people quite often with them, etc, etc. blah blah.

I appreciate your argument that the constitution does not allow each person to own a gun. However I DO disagree with you. You made some good points and have well thought out ideas. I just happen to disagree with your definition of “militia”.

Since they could never have imagined our government being as large as it is today, they couldn’t possibly create the constitution to define all of our rights hundreds of years ago. IMO we should decide that the constitution doesn’t guarantee us the right to have guns nor forbid it either. Then each state should decide for it’s self how to handle the issue. I’m willing to bet that most if not all (even the blue states) would allow law-abiding citizens to own guns for protection. Most current guns owners might not like this idea though. Again, JMO.

I agree that it should be up to the people of each state to decide things like gun ownership and abortion.

It used to be that when it became a federal crime that you had really done something but anymore the feds act like they are the states.

I have a gun and it makes me feel safer but I have friends that are afraid of them and they don't have one and I'm fine with that.

I know a guy from the ( I think it's the Neterlands ) and they aren't allowed to own fire arms except for hunting and even then you have a lot of paperwork. I asked him since guns are outlawed what do the criminals use? He said they use stolen guns from the army or black market.

The geni has been let out so how do you get rid of all guns? It can't be done because criminals would find a way to make them.

As soon as you take guns away from the common man you are inviting your government, or corrupt individuals within your government to abolish all your individual rights. Also if your refer back to WWII the Germans disarmed the Jews 2 years before they started their massacre, if they common man (Jew) would have been armed it would have made Hitler's reign a lot more difficult.

I was in Law Enforcement, now in private sector, I do not live in the perfect world you describe, I live in the REAL world. Come outside and visit some time.

I would like to belive that we could repell a corrupt government but I also live in the real world and if a country like Iraq couldn't stand up to us what makes people think that we could stop our military.

The only thing that keeps the goverment from crushing us under the boot is the fact that our soilders wouldn't follow the order.

As for the Germans it would have given the Jews a chance to take some of the soilders with them but in the end most went to the camps without knowing what awaited them untill it was too late.
