i think you will find this fellow is without competion:Wallago attu

from the net :

The natives fear it because of its known habit of eating small ducks, dogs, and small children. It is thought the Tapah became this agressive due to natives laying to rest their dead in the water. The catfish would then see this as a ready supply of food. Conditioned feeding of human corpses over the centuries created a fish that has a taste for humans!

A pet store in Michigan which had a Wallago on display, tried to convince a disbelieving customer about this fishes aggressiveness. After all, the Wallago just laid on the bottom of the aquarium without moving. He was also curious why the pet store owners kept several large heavy blocks on top of the aquarium cover. He was soon to find out during feeding time!!! The fish nearly flew out of the aquarium attempting not only to bite the fish being introduced for food, but also tried to escape from the aquarium in an apparent attempt to go after the person feeding the fish. The customer needed no other explanation. The Belle Isle Aquarium also reported similar behavior from the Tapah. Employees are warned to be very mindful of this fishes tendencies to "bite the hand" that feeds it. These fish are dangerous and not for the faint hearted. Only the biggest of aquariums should house these fish. The fishes habits are well documented and human corpses have been recovered from the fishes stomach.

I have seen that before :D I to have had them in the past and had them with other fish, Ok the tanks mates were bigger than them and my one was a mere 18" but I love these storeys. Big cat have reportedly eaten and attacked people all over the world hears another one.

another one would be (Malapterurus electricus) Electric Catfish produce a voltage capable of stunning or killing other animals

But i must say the Asian red-tail catfish for power to weight ratio i would say hes the man.

I will add about Wallago attu i quote

"The natives fear it because of its known habit of eating small ducks, dogs, and small children. It is thought the Tapah became this agressive due to natives laying to rest their dead in the water. attu is deffinatly one of the scariest, but most agressive...thats another story

Ummm OK....Never heard that one before from the BIA and it seems like I would have...

I would like to know where you got this off the net and from whom.

I was almost impressed when I read it until I read the part about it having teeth on it's tongue that point forward. Those are not teeth, those branches of the gills. Every fish in the world has them. Catfish have slightly different ones in that they have bone inside them.

I have a pseudopimelodus fowleri and ranius that are evil, a wykii that is evil, an asian red tail that is evil, a trachy that is evil and a sperata that is evil. They are all in their own aquaria but would all bow down to my Heterobranchus Longifilis who wants to eat anything that moves near the tank or makes a noise near it.

There again my alligator snappers are a little naughty as well!

I got my one from Richard at Wharf Aquatics in Pinxton, UK. He is about 32" now and like a Clarius on steroids. Richard has one that is bigger but I dont know if there are anymore in the country. He is shortly to go in a 10' x 4' x 3' definitely on his own!! When i feed him i dont open the glass out all the way as he will come staright out. He has banged me a couple of times but luckily I had my hand palm down so he couldnt hold on.

forgot to mention my Gulper as well. He is not aggressive at all but if the fish is similar size or too slender it will be gone! There is a cracking article in planetcatfish that says (I think) that a 25cm Gulper ate a 40cm pike cichlid.

He is welllllllllll coolllllllll
