  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A male umbee would , probably 200. They get to 24 + inches.

Females max at 12 so a 55 can be used if the female is alone.

Yes , I'm the someone who said the female umbee can go alone in a 55 , and I'm not going backwards. If I said male then I would be on crack.

I love the Aquanero red devil..Wow!!!

An Umbee in a 50 gallon? We ARE going....

12in fish cant go in a 12in wide tank thats what we are saying in a 12in wide tank the longest fish i would house is 9in and even that is pushing it, also umbee are an active fish and need lots of swimming space, not just enough space to turn around in circles...

an umbee or an oscar in a 55 is crazy, how are you gonna put a 12"+ fish in tank that is 12" wide. thats like putting koi in a fishbowl cause you change the water everyday. select a fish that is appropriate for your tank size or buy a tank that is appropriate for the fish you would like to keep, but PLEASE don't cram a HUGE cichlid in a tiny tank because you have convinced your self its ok. yes a 75 gallon is only 20 gallons more water but it is also 6" wider giving a large fish more room to maneuver.

I agree with Aquanero and the others. Why dont you get a bigger tank and put the Oscar in their then find a more suitable Cichlid for the 55g that the Oscar is in. As for a Female Umbee in a 50g i would say No.

Thanks Darren.

i completely agree with u seedubs. for my fist 55 i got i got a Jd from petsmart and he has become family just like my two pitbulls. i may have gotten lucky cus i dont think mine has any deformities, and great color. i can hand feed him, and he even likes it when i stick my fingers in the tank to pet him. i may have gotten lucky bought i would definatley recommend a JD. here's a pic of mine http://s1096.photobucket.com/albums/g337/jefal/my JD/?action=view&current=006.jpg

would you be willing to grow out the cichlid for a few years and then buy a 75 gal or bigger once it hit the 10" or os mark? that way you'd have enough time to know that you definitely want it as a long term pet and won't have to buy the larger tank yet. But, i don't really think that its fair to put a 12" fish in a 12" wide tank. Give the fish some room to be happy in, don't just cram it into what fits.

That's why I think the Grammodes are a real possibility here. They grow super slow, and how often do you actually see one get to 12"??? They don't all grow that big. Seems like most get to 9-10".

And we're talking years to get there if you buy Juvies.
