Your jack dempsey will defentley eat you tetras when he gets bigger.
and jack dempsey only get 7-10 inches and 50 gallon is about 13 inches wide.

Good call! Never kept them - are they sociable?

Maybe a divided pair?

Matt

The single most aggressive fish I've ever kept was hemichromis elongatus (5 star general). Not a new world Cichlid but definitely worth mentioning since they seem to fit your criteria perfectly. You won't find any for sale but look for hemichromis frempongi. Stunning and vicious!

my jack is twice if not 3 times the size of my tetras as it is, i know he can fit them in his mouth as he eats full sized earth worms for snacks. i am excited to see my babies grow especially my newly aquired green terror, showing beautiful colors though very timmid, give convicts a try and add some silver dollars if you want more motion, they're cool fish in their own ways also

Midas Cichlid will keep you entertained. They are by far the most aggressive Cichlid out there. They're also kind of smart. Tilapia Butterkoferi are a close second.

this is very relative... i've seen convicts attack their owners hands when doing raqndom maintenance, i've seen a gt recently snap on the tip of someone's finger while messing around with the filter intake, red devils/midas are epically known for aggression but in no way are they the most aggressive, it depends on the individual fish.

i believe someone else experienced the same thing with a convict

50 gallons is not big enough for a full-grown Midas. And what exactly do you mean by "smart"? What is it that you're measuring that you believe correlates with intelligence? There was a thread recently on this very topic and nobody seemed to have a straight answer.

I have an extra 50 gallon tank, can I put both a Butti AND a Midas together? Or just one of the two?
