Most BMW Forums vs MFK

This is such a copout to me. Do me a favor Google something as simple as minimum tank size for an Oscar. See what you come up with. Sure there is tons of info available from Google but if you don't already know the answer how do you know who to believe? Isn't that the point of forums? To collect info from a large group of people with similar interests?

Talking about building a basis of knowledge to understand the answers your getting. Gotta know what an oscar is, right? Alot more info is needed to keep an oscar then just minimum tank size. Within 5 minutes you can google this info and verify it on a dozen sites taking another 10 minutes. Now that you have an understanding of the size they get and the filtration needs, you can now easily understand what size tank they need if that was missed in the research, or too much conflicting data on minimum tank size is found.

What if 15 websites give you 15 different answers? How has this been helpful at all. All I'm saying is if you see a question asked that you deem stupid, just move along and don't reply. I have news for you, the guy taking the time to make the reply about just using Google and not answering the OP's question at all is way more lazy anyways

Not disagreeing with your statement. But there is more than one way to get information. And just because you choose to sift through google, doesn't mean that needs to be everyone's first option. Plus, quite often when you do google something fish related you find MFK. Which I believe would sway people to ask their questions here. If they are met with negativity it isn't helping them or our hobby at all.

Ifs and buts, show me 15 different website with different answers to min tank size for a oscar :duh: If this is the case the doubt it's a "basic" question anyhow.

Your missing my point, as you are now suggesting exactly what I said would happen to those that ask basic questions.

No I don't expect this to be the case, my point is that many basic questions asked are followed by more basic questions because too many lazy individuals don't have the knowledge to understand the answers givin. IE if your gonna ask about keeping a certain type fish, shouldn't you first understand the basics of fish keeping?

So your saying forums such as MFK should only be used by experienced hobbyists?

Do only experienced hobbyist have the knowledge of basic fish keeping? You continue to miss the point I'm making.

I don't believe I'm missing your point at all. I just don't believe we should judge someone as lazy because they come to a fish keeping forum for basic aquarium questions. Whether they sift through google or ask questions on a forum, they are putting forth effort to learn. And for that I don't feel they should be greeted with negativity.

Not saying they should, but this is what happens. They are only judged as lazy when they don't put effort to build a knowledge base. If someone comes here to find out about fish keeping and is a complete beginner, that's fine. But when you give them links with lots of info and they just ignore them and continue to asks the basics like What's water? What's a tank? What's a fish? How you going to deal with them?

Now that, we can agree on lol.
