Most BMW Forums vs MFK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I see your point and completely disagree with it. I wasn't picked last for dodgeball in grammar school so I don't have a problem answering simple questions...

Really? Yet you've made comment that say otherwise.

People dont look at the tabs or the sticky's anymore. Or use the search button. Or use google for that matter. More and more "which knob is the hot water" threads every day...

I think we are quick to judge. There are lazy guys that ask lazy questions, but as stated there is a lot of conflicting information about some questions. I've been in this hobby for a long time. i still have "noob" questions sometimes because a get a new problem, species, filter, etc. Noob for people that know, but not to someone that is new to that particular aspect. MFK was founded to bend rules. If you follow conventional wisdom , many of the spectacular displays we see would be considered impossible or at least overstocked/mis-stocked. Many people here are very knowledgeable and helpful. I think that is the point or a good forum, to grow, learn, and teach yourself and others.

Again, not against the lazy or basic questions, as long as you possess the knowledge to understand the answers to those questions. You don't think you should have some idea about the subject you are asking questions about?

Nice spin sir, a tad out of context don't ya think though? Did that have anything to do with someone asking a simple question? Cause to me it was someone looking for a shortcut to an easier mousetrap

You think it gets nasty on here? Try a skateboarding or BMX forum... your not allowed to know anything over an Ollie or you get a "footy or it didn't happen". That's the most annoying thing in the world, who films themselves all the time?

But there are certain things that I feel people on here need to understand, like you can have a grow out tank for something as long as you have concrete, good plans to upgrade at the appropriate size of fish. The whole super old poster simply being rude because a newbie is doing something wrong always gets me thinking "Hence why they came on here, they want to learn". Of course if someone is knowingly not taking the advice then by all means, roast away.

Exactly, some guy posts a chart on standard tank sizes and you comment with that. If "More and more "which knob is the hot water" threads every day..." isn't a slam on basic questions, then what is it geared toward?

I do think it is nice if a person gets the background that they can first. I am not excusing the people that do not try to process the info given. i have (with my limited knowledge) given answers that were simply overlooked in the hope of an easier answer. That is kind of frustrating, but fish keeping is an art. When I come on I sometimes ask questions that mat seem novice to the "experts", but I understand that there is a "touch" to fish keeping and sometimes it is not just about the numbers you will find in a lot of your Google searches (not mentioning the total BS). I respect (and mostly agree) with your last few statements, but some people just need a hand. Let's focus on that. Ignore who you wish, but help those that you think can be helped.

I'm a chemical engineer. I get tons of questions from people that have noobish (to me) questions, but I know the ask me because it is easier than doing all the tedious, time consuming footwork to get it on their own. Also doing it on their own they may not get all the important information. See acetone peroxide. Imagine the surprise I got from a friend that wanted to make that because he saw how easy it was on the internet. I thought, "It is a great idea for people who know nothing about chemistry or explosives to make volition, unstable compounds."

I think I basically agree with you now that I understand your perspective, but we too often let things get heated unnecessarily.

How bout it Matt,do you ever give in to those urges?

I won't lie, I play the grey area from time to time - as long as I say in the rules and stick to facts.
The card I hold back is many don't know the level that I've played at in the Mustang world. One time a guy didn't like my 'facts/tech' and resorted to mocking the big wing on my car claiming something about I can't be taken seriously if I have a wing like that. I was just going to sit back and , until a member pointed out it was a track car and a 1 of 1 made prototype / test mule car, not a street car - then posted a pic of it running laps. Haha
