but if you dont have more than 1-2 tanks it isnt worth the price.
i have 8 and it saves some time

That is going on my Christmas list for Santa for next year. I hate putting the siphon hose out the door in the winter time. Even stuffing towels in the crack I still get tons of cold air coming in. I'm on a septic system so putting the water down the drain is out of the question. If I had that unit I could just discharge my pump to the outdoors with my planned plumbing for water changes and use that for cleaning the gravel. No Open Exterior Doors - sweet.

Are the micron cartridges reusable?

O Santa!

That's a really cool idea and it looks like something that could definitly be done DIY :D.

I've got an old inline Mag Drive pump and some fittings, I should be able to hook my siphon up to it and then build some kind of inline filter and run it back to the tank :D.

:) Bump:

Has any one tried filling there tank with an fx5? I am on a well so I gota soften my water and thought of using my fx5 to fill my tank instead of using a bucket one by one...?

Also, when you guys just fill your tank straight from the tap, do you just add your chlorine remover to the tank (an not to the water before the tank)? Since im on a well I have never had to mess with that and was just curious? :)

I prefer to dechlorinate in a bucket before adding to the tank. But I know plenty of people who just put the dechlorinator in the tank and fill it up directly.

I am talking about just FW above. If dealing with salt or brackish though you have to mix it with salt and get it to the same temp beforehand anyway, so you really have to premix it first (unless your just replacing evaporated water).

Mattyou's speed clean method......

Start a gravity syphon by shoving your Lees or equivalent syphon down the neck of a cut off garden hose, throw the hose out the door into the yard.

With a faucet adapter and a python with a return directional sprayer on it (like you would use for a wet/dry return) instead of the syphon. Get the water running at the temp you want into the tank.

Clean and refill at the same time withoput ever shutting off the filters. My tap water quality is very good so chemicals are not a problem, once finished I treat the whole tank volume with de-chlor of choice.

I have done it this way for 20+ years and never killed fish from this method. In Florida where the city water was crappy, I had to be fast, but here in Southern MD where the water is ALOT better, I can take all the time I want. Since this method is so easy I am more likely to do much more frequent water changes than if I had to do it differently. I have multiple tanks to clean and I can do all in a few hours with this method. Tanks are 180 / 3x150 / 125 / 120 / 2x90 / 2x75 / 70 / 2x60 / 58 / 4x55 and the odd 20 gal grow-out tanks number always changing.

Best of luck.
