as commonplace as they are to us MFKers honestly I think a 30"+ silver arowana in an adequete tank (300 gal+) is one of the most impressive sites in fish keeping. Always gets oohss and aahhss from non-fishkeepers and fishkeepers alike. Other than that - ATFs and Vampire Tetras always impress people :)

yeah i like the payara and especially the ATF's. How big of a tank would a full grown atf need?

i think just having a 100+ gallon tank will get a lot of oooo and aaaaa's. but fish wise id say rays, aros, pbass, and piranha

I can't believe no one has said full grown male, sh*ithouse crazy, glass banging, tankmate murdering, Parachromis dovii yet!? That's my answer anyway. :D

Are you kidding? I went into a newly open pet shop, and for *get this* $1500, came a 4x2x2 tank with a very nice hood and stand, plus useless other junk such as coloured gravel, an internal filter and some goldfish flakes.
I have to say, 4x2x2's seem much bigger with water in them. But I would have to say any tank that you can fit a grown adult in would raise some eyebrows from non-fishkeepers.

An interesting fish is something that interacts with its owner, has 'impressive' looks and has a rather large build. Such as a dovii as mentioned above. I mean, who loves nothing more than inviting some friends over to see your kids, they ask where they are and you say, in a sealed glass box full of water.

At my place it's my 2ft Silver Arowana, closely followed by my 14" Red Dragon ZZ Flowerhorn. It's funny, because a lot of people ask if it's an oscar just because it's big. Normal people without our affliction think any large freshwater fish is an oscar. To think about it....at least they are right in the fact they are both cichlids.

asians aro's, huge widebar dats, any fresh water rays, umbee's, dovii's, BBG, aimara, lacerdae, giant snakeheads, lionfish, the list can go on forever....
