Thats alot of money. I hope Large cichlids knows what kinda investment maintaining a 200+ gallon tank really is. This is exactly why I'll be happy with my 90-100 gallon tank in a few months. Because I know I could prob get by with just my two Emporer 400's if need be.

Still if money isn't a priority, those Eheims are some of the best.

yah it cost alot to set up a tank this size on my 240 I use 2-2260's and 2-ac 110's

if you really wanna get 2 canisters instead of building or buying a sump, get a Fluval FX5(High turnover, excellent mech filter) and an ehiem pro3(large capacity, excellent bio filter)

If it were me, i'd do some RESEARCH and build a sump........plus add a fluval fx5 :)

if your looking at all options, another thing to consider would be to check into pent air's inline system (lifeguard series I think).. you can design your own, and add and remove various features based on your own wants and needs...

The 2262s have better flow rate than the pro 3s, and can accommodate a much larger tank than an FX5.

What about media volume, which ones bigger... 2262 or pro 3? i know both put the fx5 to shame in terms of bio filtering, thats why i said it was a good mech filter because of the higher turn over.

what 2 canisters would you go with?

Why not a main filter, With lots of Media. Than a secondary filter with less media but a higher turnover rate?

Thats what i'm saying, have a larger capacity ehiem for bio and an fx5 for mech and high turn over.... :)

Which ehiem has the largest volume for media, i don't know. someone else will be able to tell you

For tanks over 100g, I recommend putting in a wet dry filter....W/D's are VERY effecient biological filters...Companies out there make lots of W/D's for big tanks, ex:ProClear125 is for 125g, ProCLear200 is for 200g, ProClear300 is for 300g....You can also make one yourself for less than half the money you'll spend on a brand new one....The catch is getting all the components working in almost perfect unison(that's all)....And for mechanical filtration, I'd stick on two AC110's....

The Eheim 2260/2262 houses 16 liters of media. This is by far the largest capacity of the canisters. The 2262 has a higher flow rate than the 2260, and is quite comparable to a FX5 in flow rate.

We better add the Red Sea Ocean Clear line to this list. Very customizable to monster tanks.
