Most Tranquil fish to own

I'd say this is a personal decision. . I Could stare at a shark tank and feel completely relaxed and tranquil. Same with my bass where as other fish like goldfish and what not I find boring and not relaxing.
I agree, & what is it about Discus that people find tranquil, when i look at an aquarium i want to go to a better place, not to sleep. Someone else mentioned Rummy's & Rams & what have you & i would agree they are nice peaceful tanks to have, the only problem with them is they are so small you have to sit right next to the tank to enjoy it.

For me, while I do prefer big fish, a well balanced African tank with Yellows, Rusties, Haps & a well crafted scape of rocks & wood can be a mighty fine place to lose yourself while sitting in an armchair with your poison of choice. Ahhh the tranquility....... Dammnit, i wanna set up another African tank now lol..

I had a planted discus tank with two schools of rummys and cardinals and each school was approximately 50 fish. The tight schooling of the rummys combined with the cardinals shoaling was cool then you'd have a discus swim through one of the school and both species would all act like herring. I did get them to grow pretty big but lost all the rummys when I didn't dose my buffer correctly.

Small shoaling fish in large groups are very peaceful to me. Rummies are one of the best for schooling in my opinion. I like the combo of cardinals and rummies in with bigger fish such as angels and severum.

Large shoals of rummys & cardinals would be great but i shudder at how much that would cost me if i bought from a fish store here in Oz & add to that how delicate these little guys can be & it's just not an option for me.

Planted community tank with just about whatever shoaling fish you'd like. My LFS has a real nice planted 125 full of rainbowfish, you can do the same thing with barb, tetra, etc species.

I personally like that idea with one big severum or something of the sort. I absolutely love my sev tank, could get lost in there.

If you go with a severum it would cut down on your dither costs, you wouldn't be able to get stuff like cardinals and fish of similar size. 10 rainbow fish and 1 severum in about a 75/90gal. That's my vote.

School of 200+ cardinal tetras I found relaxing and memorizing as the move.

I found my discus anything but peaceful, too skittish. Bit that's what makes the hobby great, can find something you like!

Angels who aren't fighting with anything are pretty tranquil fish, and nice to watch if they're carefully inspecting a new thing.
Leopard ctenopomas are also good, but sometimes they'd rather stare at you than swim around being interesting.

Long Fin Rosy Barbs. They are pretty chill fish and rarely spook out. Larger schools are relaxing to watch. Here one of my guys and two lady friends.IMG_0615 (2).JPG IMG_0617 (2).JPG
