motoros with the humerosas

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sand is optional for the keeper but i know for sure rays do better with substrate

with other fish its not as much of a problem as it is with rays as the rays live on top of the substrate

i know many people who have bred rays all of their tanks had substrate

a ray on a bare bittom tank is like a human walking around on a woodern floor with socks on you slip all over the place

it doesnt have to be sand a fine pea gravel will do

rays love to pump and dig in the substrate buy keeping them on a bare base you are taking away one of the things they love most

flip i dont know how many rays you have kept in the past but i would say it cant be many or you would have been able to spot a male ray from a female easy

i have been keeping rays for over 10yrs and can garantee you that rays do better on substrate

Totally agree, with all of the posts in this thread! I have a large humerosa who spins all day long. I have 6 inches of substrate & she digs in circles all day long. as a matter of fact I saw one of my leos pushing a 10lb rock around the tank like it was a pebble. I would like to add that rays love stimulation, they will survive in zero substrate & adapt, but I think my rays would die... I constantly add articles to the tank to keep them stimulated.

mmmm just avoid the thread when some is trying to give you advice OK :screwy:

Hey Richard, chill, my friend. Let Filiportela do his thing...let him find out. He is an awesome fishkeeper for one so young.

mmmm why take it as an attack i would take it as advice

with any other fish a bare bottom tank may be ok but rays live on the tank base

would you rather sleep in a nice comfy bed or a sheet of glass :D

my rays spend most of their day digging in the substrate i would hate to see them without it

my rays are captive bred so it shouldnt matter if they had substrate or not but they love to dig in it like wild caught rays so that tells me it is something they do naturally

when my ray pups were born the 1st thing they done was cover them selfs with substrate why would they do that if it wasnt a natural thing to do

i have also been told that rays grind down they teeth buy digging the substrate which they cant do in a bare tank

so like i said this is not an attack its advice and as far as i know thats what a forum is for :D

richard i whould never take it as an attack, and as i told you before, they will end up in a tanks with substract at breeding age...

and about keeping rays you are right, i only had one before but i learned a lot before getting it, as with every fish i get, but they asured me that it was a couple, i was looking at it and it didn't looked like one, that's why i asked you guys if there was a different way with the humerosas, since it was the first time i had seen humerosas:grinno:

about fishkeeping, come visit one day and i promisse you will be impressed:D :naughty:

i love your tank, but even if i didn't i'd repect your choice...

so trust me i'm not taking this the wrong way, so don't you go take it the wrong way, but this was my choice, because it's easyer to have total control over the tank and fish...

i'm not saying you are not right, totally the opposite, of course they whould like it more if it had substract, but "I" like more without, and for now, this is how they will grow... later for the breeding project, every ray tank will have substract...;)

better?
