Moving Day!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey, no picture but I have an update. The bichir is doing very well. He is coming out and swimming around now. He never stopped eating and usually gets some of the Massivore pellets and can often grab some of the frozen food before the eels eat it all. He acts like he owns the tank. Lol. Today, he was swimming all over the vultures, and he couldn’t have cared less about the eels checking him out when they passed by him. The wound around where his anal fin wa is healing up. Still to soon to tell if it will grow back but my guess is on no, except for maybe a tiny sliver at the top that wasn’t completely ripped off. There hasn’t been any other signs of aggression since the incident where the anal fin was ripped off.

Glad to hear it's working out. Are you a little surprised how calm the vultures are ? I really hope mine stays so relaxed

I’m not too surprised. They have always been that way, even when I had to move my smaller fire eel in before I was ready. He was only 7-8” and very thin at the time. They payed him no mind. My endli is about the same length, but much thicker.

I'm actually surprised by not only it's temperment but also it's appetite. It eats just as much as one of the Polys. Takes it's fill and keeps it moving. I was under the impression that they were garbage fans with fins

Lol, mine are garbage “bins” with fins. They will eat anything and everything. They will also not stop eating until everything is gone. I’ve seen them with giant bulged stomachs many times. However, like I’ve mentioned in other threads, they don’t really start eating until I turn the lights off, like the instant I turn the lights off. Lol. Because of this, I let the eels eat the frozen food, because they won’t eat pellets at all, and then put the pellets in for the vultures. I have been leaving the lights on a bit longer since moving the endli in so that he gets a chance at the pellets before the vultures. The endli doesn’t have any issue getting into the mix with the eels for the frozen food though, so it usually gets a bit of both. As far as pellets, I currently feed 25 Massivore pellets every three days. Five are meant for the endli, which it usually gets, and the other 20 are for the vultures. It’s enough for each of them to get a slight bulge in their stomachs.

Interesting complete opposite of mine. He'll continue flying around and snatch up a piece or two, dart off finish eating g then repeat.

Here are some pictures I took while feeding last night. The patterns are really starting to come out. The first two were the endli hanging out with my vultures. Lol

Also, it does look like the anal fin is starting to grow back. It’s only about 1/4” long right now and is all black, but it’s there.

Yes they can regenerate most fins. It'll take a bit but it should fully grow back. My teug was consistently getting his tail munched and it was pretty bad sometimes it always grew back. I'm glad that phase of their lives seems to have passed though, no more weird fin injuries.
