Oh ya and 5 x indo it about 2-3 inches each.

Not sure if I missed out anything else

What I do is get lfs to bag them, put in styrofoam box and tape them all round. Then I put in my luggage and surround them with my clothes for additional cushioning

Then I go airport and get them to wrap my luggage

Just make sure the bag is not filled to max with oxygen as the lfs in bkk says air will expand in midair also pump half , with room for expansion. As added security , can tape the corners of bag so that fish will not get caught in it

Exactly dude, that's what we've trying to tell you for how many post now, sheesh. So why do you keep going on about checked baggage? Matteus never mentioned anything about checked baggage, it's only you going on stupidly about checked baggage that nobody is considering to do.

Actually, I'm not even sure air cargo is that different from checked baggage. He said he would fly with the fish and air cargo doesn't guarantee the fish would be on the same flight...

I still don't see the logic in driving the distance then going back and transporting the fish by air.

If air transport really is better why did Ohio Fish Rescue drive 4 days with fish?

Thats interesting i never considered the air expanding mid flight.

It might have been cheaper or more fun. Some people just prefer driving over flying.

Maybe because size matters

Just of curiosity how many times have you actually traveled by air with fish (or any other animals)? Or even flown on an airplane for that matter? I'm going to take a wild guess and say not many, if any :)

For cargo it depends on whether or not the goods being shipped contain live animals or not (and of course whether or not one properly notifies the airline what they are doing).

Do you think dogs and cats in cages are put in the regular baggage holds that are very cold and have no air and make them wear oxygen masks? If you specify you have a live animal or fish they will be put it in a special oxygen & temperature controlled hold (without golf club bags lol) -- if they freeze a $1,000 fish they're going to have some explaining and reimbursing to do, which I'm sure they generally try to avoid. Also you can very easily make sure your live animal cargo is on the very same flight as yourself (I've done it 6 times on international trips with 1-2 dogs), no dramas (except long/expensive quarantine period in Japan).

Also to be clear nobody here ever said air travel is actually better, but somebody did start to imply that by air was worse/dangerous, just saying. Imho each to his own and I think both by road as OP describes or by air is perfectly fine, though there's always the chance something weird/unusual could happen with either method.
