I’m moving cross town next month, and I have a 130 gal freshwater. Last move I did absolutely everything wrong, new gravel and filter, scrubbed driftwood and tank, etc...Lost all but one fish (no surprise). I have shubunkins and plecos, hearty fish, but still! So this time around we are using movers, and I’ll set up tank as soon as it arrives. I’m going to put same filters and balls, driftwood and ornaments in a plastic bag with water to keep from drying out. Gravel in a plastic bin with enough water to cover. I have AquaSafe to treat water. Any ideas on what else I need to do?

Well sounds like you pretty much have a great plan. What are you transporting the fish in?

I’m going to get plastic bags for large fish from LFS. Is there something else that might work better? My biggest one is the feeder goldfish. I’ll send a comparison photo with my hand. I’m a pretty small woman.

The large bags are fine. I would place the bag in a Styrofoam box or a plastic tote.

Styrofoam is a great idea. You never know what March in Wisconsin is going to be like. If I can’t get styrofoam, maybe wrap the bags in bubble wrap in a tote. The air spaces should be great insulation.

I would set up a temporary holding container (tote, esky, rubbish bin etc) to house your fish for a few days so you can move and re-set up the tank without stress or time pressure. You can keep the holding container at old place or new place depending on your circumstances. No need to feed the fish if it's only a week.
