How's the cloudiness doing? Sometimes cycling your tank can cause cloudiness too.

I'm having an issue with my pump. It keeps pumping the water out way faster than its trickling down through all the filter media. I added a valve to slow it down some but its still doing it ... it keeps sucking bubbles. I'm thinking maybe I should add more water to the tank or something but the guy that gave me everything told me to leave the water level an inch from the top so it doesn't ever overflow if the power goes out ... something just doesn't seem right.
Instead of closing the valve down to slow the pump (which puts excess wear on the pump) you could use it to divert some of the pumped water back into the sump (so it would take 2 trips through the sump). That way your pump gets to run at its peak efficiency and your water gets double filtered.
So, straight out of the pump to a T, one side of the T goes to the tank and the other side goes to your valve, the other side of the valve goes back to the sump.
