My 16" senegalus from Lake Turkana

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If you put it on paper then I see absolutely why captive bred fish don't grow full size. But hey, I'm not complaining. If the smaller captive bred stays small enough for my tank then I'm all for it. If I want the full size one then I'll get a wild caught one. I've been thinking about getting a wild caught senegal bichir tbh.

Also is there a difference between a nigerian senegal and others?

It's only 2.4% salinity, which is a lot but that salt seems excessive..
fishhead0103666 fishhead0103666 most sens in the trade are captive bred, and are usually shorter for some reason. My Cb is shorter and Stubby compared to my wild caught which is longer and slimmer. Had them for the same amount of time

giseok jung giseok jung do you have Nigerian senegalus by any chance?

I also have 1pair of Nigerian senegalus too
(upper one)
They are full grown and ready to breed, but still looks like a david and goliath when they swim with Turkana one

Just looked up the salinity of Lake Turkana, aver 2500ppm salinity (2.5ppt or 2lbs of salt per 100g).

This is water condition of Lake Turkana checked when my friend in Japan flew to Lake Turkana to take some senegalus and PBBs many years ago.

GH 2 ° dh,
KH 43 ° dh
Salinity 1.001
Temp 31 ℃

Got my info from here

2500mg/l is about 2.5% right?

So converting 2500mg/l to ppt is 2.5 ppt?
http://www.aquatext.com/tables/concconv.htm

Then using a calculator to get 2.5ppt, and assuming no salt in water for 100g, you get roughly 2 lbs of salt to be added to 100 g of water

I would imagine rains would get that salt down in half at different times of the year.

I have a CB female and WC male, does this make any difference?

Hope she spawns soon for you :)

It'd be 2.5grams per litre of water. So you're right, I just misread your earlier message. My apologies :)
