my 20g tank is cloudy...

Please provide us with your Ammonia, Nitrite, and Nitrate levels.

As for how to upgrade, my advice would be to purchase a six foot tank or a large stock tank, and allow them to stay in that for about eight months, and by that time, you'll need to have the pond or tank ready for them that's at least 1,000 galllons. Otherwise, you'll waste a lot of money between point A and point B. The ultimate project is expensive enough without spending money to constantly upgrade the tiny tanks they're in.

You'll need things you likely haven't considered, such as filtration that moves ten times the tank's volume per hour. When you get into tanks/ponds 1,000 gallons plus, this usually means building a filter DIY and then combining pumps in order to reach the desired turnover. These pumps can be very, very costly to run.

Did you cycle the tank? If you didn't, that's what's wrong, and it's a very, very basic thing to understand about fishkeeping. Please read here on the nitrogen cycle:

These are not fish for the beginning hobbyist... their needs are just too great. You have a lot of catch-up learning to do if you plan on keeping these fish alive.

You may have spent very little money on these fish, but the amount it will cost to keep them is exponentially higher. Both of these fish are a huge, expensive responsibility!

They'll be fine. Fish only grow to the size of their tanks anyways. My rtc has lived in a 29 gallon for 3 years and he eats 5 chicken mcnuggets a day.

one other thing is that aussie aro's generally kill their tankmates. thats if the rtc doesnt eat it first.

:headshake No need for sarcastic comments in this serious thread.

get a bigger tank, and then buy the survivor an even bigger tank. use the first one as your sump.
I recently had the same issue though with the tank my red devil is in. do lots of small water chnges and wait for the bio filter to catch up. it happened to me after the power to my tank accidentally got turned off for a day and all the bio filtration died. water just stayed cloudy for days. then BAM all was good again

Cory's might have been a better option for the 20g.
