My 210 FOWLR Turned Reef

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Borrowing the club PAR meter today. Excited to see how much of a difference my new reflectors are making. Plus I haven't tested it since a changed my rockwork and it will give me a better idea of where is best to place stuff. I will post some results if I get a chance to use it tonight.

Well I finished my PAR readings today. Needless to say I am disappointed by the results. I am hoping my bulbs are just dead I guess, though they are just under 10 months old with an average daily use of about 7 hours I would say. Thought they would last longer. I got higher readings when I did this in early summer with my old fixture that didn't really have reflectors. Might be putting new bulbs on very soon, then borrowing the PAR meter again and seeing the difference.

On a better note, I went and watched how the Bellus Angel was doing yesterday and it is doing very well. I will be bringing it home tomorrow and putting it in QT. I will make sure I snap a few pics, this thing is small and awesome!

Viking shaking my head.....................how was the packer game?

Lets go GIANTS!

On a serious note how would someone like myself get hands on a PAR meter?

Either join a local reef club that has one or buy one(they are pricey). Those are your 2 options pretty much.

Well I made it to a guy's house today that is shutting down his in home business. Needless to say his setup is ridiculous. He has/had 240, 180, and 120 gallon displays upstairs and has a 6, 8, 16, 6, and 4 foot runners downstairs full of frags. Evidently he has sold off almost half of what he normally has, but still had thousands of frags.

I got 6 frags total(2 chalices, 1 frogskin, 1 acan, 1 mille, 1 cyphastrea?) for $100 bucks, a couple of which he normally sells at frag swaps for $70-75 a piece. Below is one pic of them getting acclimated but I will try to get some pics now that they are in the tank. The acan is looking sweet and I hope it holds it's color, it has some rainbowing going on.

I also bought all this frag stuff, glue, insta-set, and tons of frag plugs. Should last me years!!

As I was about to leave, I noticed this under the egg crate in one of the tanks...

Doesn't look like much in the pic, but it is stunning! It's an adult Chevron tang. I asked how much he wanted for it....$40 bucks!!! Um, yes I will take it. lol

So after seeing that I had to ask if he was hiding anything else sweet. He was. I spotted this guy in the corner of the 16 foot tank and with a couple quick moves got lucky and trapped it in the corner with egg crate. $35 bucks and he was mine, plus he eats pellets!

He is already buried in the tank. No QT for him. I went to the store and bought more sand and built it up on one side so he will have a place to bury himself.

Lastly, I picked up the Bellus angel...this little girl is so cute!

Here are pics of the corals in the tank. The 2nd one shows the chalices and acan, but it quite poor. Couldn't get a good pic from where they sit on the rack.

Update: Leopard wrasse is out and about and eating! My sailfin has made a few runs at him though, so I hope that doesn't continue.

I put an acrylic trap in the tank and put some pellets inside to see if I could catch myself a tang. So far all that is happened is my hermits have eaten most of it, lol. I am going to have to put it on a stand or something and then try again. I need to get my Vlamingi out because he is getting bigger and more aggressive and I don't want him in the tank when the Chevron and Bellus go in. If I catch the sailfin tang I will put him in the 90 gallon for a while too and then reintroduce him when the chevy and bellus go in to alleviate aggression.

Well I ran into problems with the first gold torch I got. It never opened past what was shown in the pics I posted. Then after about a week it just didn't open at all and died. I am not sure why. The LFS I got it from gave me another one since it died so quickly. This is more like it, just put it in yesterday. The 2nd is my new male potters wrasse! This guy is awesome. Other pics are me screwing around with the fact that I have high ceilings.
