my 75G Tanganyika setup - project

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
BUMP.

Cycling of tank begins tonight.. picked up bottle of Seachem stability! Also using some bio media from other tank.

will post picks of dosing and water params! scheduled to have fish stock delivered by Feb 1st!

@ Mike. NO lighting right now, just natural light that will shine into room... plan will be just regular florescent lighting. This weekend Im going to make a 1/4" plexi tank lid - I have a light from a 30 gallon I can use for one side of tank.

NOTE!!!... Tested water BEFORE adding stability.. params are a little weird. Showing ammonia and I CANNOT figure out what my PH is.. high range.

PS. used a few bio-media noodles from planted tank.'
Furthermore - Using CRUSHED CORAL in my AC110 filter (small panty hose bag) and a little bit spread throughout the sand (too much maybe?)

UPDATE..

TWO WORDS..

FML & EPIC FAIL.

Hooked up the Eheim 2217... 'primed' it with adding water to canister, hooked it up and powered on... there was air so I shook it around then..... BAM... home made water fountain. the pump head line shot off and water sprayed everywhere..

here is aftermath after cleaned up. had a pool of water before i could unplug it...mess is cleaned up.

I have a small bend in hose after pump head - but no way around it unless canister sits outside of stand (not happening).

Inside: ~2 inches of efhmech
1 BLUE coarse pad
Filled 1 Gallon paint filter w. Substrat pro (~40%)
White filter pad

When i put the grate ontop, it was ALMOST towards the inner rim of the can.

The current from the spray bar doesnt feel that strong? Although When I tilt it up so it skims the water - it moves =). NOTE: I've always used Aquaclears

You could always build a Drop down inside of the tank stand.

1.) Cutout Sqaure hole in bottom tray of the stand (Stand Floor).
2.) Build a Box about 2.5-3" deep with Lip around the top parameter of it that runs 1"+ larger than the square hole cut in stand Floor.
3.) Drop Box with lip into the hole cut in stand floor and zip about 4-8 screws to secure it to the Stand.

Something like this...

I thought we were always told 'no loops / droops' for the canister filters.

Any ideas on my PH and water params as current?

Looks good for a tang setup. You want that high PH. Test again in a few days to a week to get more accurate results. Already starting your ammonia spike. That's good. And a lot of people on here say that stuff like stability, microbe-lift special blend and start right are crap. I say Stability it great and works. I use it in all my tanks for start up and maintenance. Good stuff IMO.

@cichlid_starter.. thanks guy.

I was following the MFK 'Seachem Stability" thread for awhile..

Although, I DID cheat a LITTLE bit. I saved some bio-media from other filter in ziplock w/ water

NOTE... Total FML.

had the ehiem canister up and running.. I notice it was rattling.. Shook it around thinking there was trapped air.. nope.

Cut the power, stopped the lines and proceeded to drain canister...Low and behold a broken propeller SHAFT.....

This is what I get for ordering via ebay eh? new in the box.. Although i noticed the top of pump head was scratched - but came with ALL filter media.

That sucks but at least you can just order a new shaft.
