My 9 yr old son's tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That is a GREAT photo! what a smile, he is adorable and his aquarium is fantastic.
I could see this turning into a nice little business. heck- I'd pay him ;-)

Tell him to enjoy his fish.

Thanks ... and I'll pass it along to him. Its nice he's taking such an interest ... gives us another thing to bond with, and who knows where it could lead to.

To be quite honest with you... his tank looked way better then my fish tanks as a beginner ever did.. (minus the gravel choice haha) great job!

Thanks ... the gravel was his first choice. He saw the look on my face and thought of changing it, I have to watch my expressions. I wanted this tank to be his without my influence ... and as it is (even with the colourful gravel) he made my tanks look pretty plain. I see he's eyeing my empty 29 tall now, I might let him scape that one for me .... but I'll choose the gravel for it.

Looks great hope he keeps it up and his new hobby/interests grow into the same passion we all have... Again looks great keep up the good work...

Nice job, I'm working my 8 year old into his 1st tank. great way to bond with your son.

Its is a great way to bond ... so many things I'm teaching rather than participating .... this is something we're now learning together. Hope it works out for your son too. Nice to see the passion that a kid can have.

Looks good! A lot better then my empty tank right now :(

LOL ... I've a few of those kicking around now too. Just gave him an assignment on how to reconfigure my 55G's landscape, layed out a few extra decorations for him to utilize. We'll see what he comes up with. Added incentive is he gets to scape another 29G afterwards, but I'm picking the gravel on that one.

i agree with everyone ... that looks WAY WAY better than my first tank ... and fish choices also ... great job!!!!

Thanks again everyone for the comments, I hope his passion for this keeps growing as well (I have a feeling it will). I'm not one to just post things about my kids too readily. But I was damn impressed with what he came up with.
I keep teasing him about putting cichlids in there ... he said he wants to stay with guppies and swords for a bit ... then he'll choose whats next.

Thanks again ... the smile I seen on his face as I read these to him ... priceless. At least he's stopped blushing though.

Hope all the Dad's out there had a good father's day ... I did. Anyhow little update, my son re-scaped my 55G with me (he did 75% of the planning ... if not more and made me move any plant I had), and as an added bonus I let him scape another 29G and even though I have no more plants (real or fake) for him do use ... I like what he did.
This is the 29 he did .. some unknown juvenile cichlids in there (they came with the tank off kijiji).

And this is how my 55G turned out ... he had to figure out something, as the piece of driftwood he took completely destroyed my layout ...

... yep I was impressed and thought I'd share as an update to his aquascaping. It looks like he's caught the bug too (YIPPEE), and as an added bonus for him. At bedtime tonight we noticed one of his swords had babies.
