I would love to have one, but I don't know what the heck I would do when that thing is full grown.

That,IMO, is not a big problem stateside. There are a lot of places that receive big Snappers and either keep them or reintroduce them in the wild according to certain protocols.

Mee Wee, that is my alli being fed with tweezers...never fails. She also picks everything up from the bottom..

No its not necessary.
A proper varied diet and an incandescent bulb are sufficient.
Also its probably a good idea to take the turtle outside for a "walk" so it can get some natural sunlight.

Haha, thanks. I take my RES out for "walks" all the time. She actually "runs" all over the grass.

don't leave it without food for more than 3 days...she's a baby.
lets try another thing. catch a fish and hold it by its tail with a tweezer. lets see...

then lets try with a freshly dead fish, in the same manner.

Did that today.
It just doesnt want to seem to eat unless its already in hunting mode.
But when it is and i have a fish in tweezers ready. The turtle closes its mouth as soon as it sees my hand enter the tank. So i proceed to wiggle the fish around, but to no avail.

And since my turtle is so mellow i cant really force feed.

So I added a ton of gambusia to the tank and it started hunting again. so im hoping that it gets to eatin.

By any chance Miguel, was your turtle captive bred?
Im fairly sure mine was but on the off chance that it wasnt, could the issues at hand be attributed to its wild caught status?

I am pretty sure that mineis captive..You did allright. No point stressing her. You have about 80 years in front of you to get her used to "dead"...
