My Aquarium.. Open to suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes i do know i need a bigger tank. I am working on getting that set up in the near future.
So far i havent had any problems with aggression towards each other with any of the species but i have been checking on them to see. I was a little worried when i first tried it, but it seems to be working out; for now at least.
I love this forum already! I just joined and have already had a lot of useful advice. Thank you!

Another question. My tank is a little bit cloudy and i think its from the excess food that i cant scoop out after they eat. I do weekly water changes at around 10%. Would you recommend getting a bigger filter? If so, What kind? What other ideas? Thanks

So in my aquarium the p's i have are??:
1 Serrasalmus maculatus
2 Pyocentrus nattereri

yes and one of these days the reds are guna either kill the mac or the mac is guna kill the reds whne you get the 55 my suggestion is to move the reds to the 55 and keep the mac in the 29 the 29 will last the mac a while becuase they are slow growers and the 55 might last the reds between 6-8 months

also bump up the water changes think between 30-50% a week

I was looking at setting up my 55 today and keeping the mac in the 30. I am also looking at a 125g. I will separate them as soon as i can. Thanks

a solo mac could live a long time in a 55g. 125g is recommended for a shoal of RBPs. The silver lining is that you could probably keep 6 in a 125g for life no problems.

:welcome:

So 125 would be good for the rbs for life? Maybe a couple more?

oh yes definatly 6 in a 125 is perfect your pleco could go in the 125 as well (reds are usualy more forgiving to tank mates than serra's are)

Ok i really want the 125 but im still seeing if i can get it. Thanks for all your help and ill keep you updated.

If i did get the 125, Is there any way i could get other species of piranha? Like some Caribe? Ternetzi?

yes you can, caribe is also pygocentrus.
ternetzi is also nattereri but just a different variant and gets bigger.
if you could, look for a 180g instead of a 125g, the extra width make a big difference ( 24" vs 18") as the caribe and ternetzi can get bigger than reds.
