my aro didnt eat tonight

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my jar is at 8" and recently i tried to add a 7" venustus chiclid but unfortunately it didn't work out and the same evening i had remove the chiclid
but after that for a few days my jar was very skittish, refused to eat,sat in a corner, but never refused earthworms
and now he is kind of better
add a little bit of current to the tank, a powerhead may be, and he will be a little active

they will only move to counter the current which will get them tired. They come from slow/still moving water.

any update on the aro?

You can do 1 degree per hour/2 hours, wouldn't really hurt if it was every half hour. Is he gasping? Or is his mouth close?

Hey mnight, how long has it been since the move to the new tank? Back in May when I adopted the 22" silver it took a good month before he really settled in. He ate very little during that time.

Edit: just realized that he has yet to be moved, not sure what I was thinking. I have never really experience much of a hunger strike with any of my aros, but have heard of of them going for 5-6 weeks without food. I don't think the salt would do anything, raising the temp could up his metabolism and may trigger eating.

thanks for the replies

update
temp is now about 84
what do you guys keep your silvers temps at?
is 77 cold?
cus he is seeming to swim a bit more now
still likes to stop and look out the end tho.
so whats the normal temp?
hopefully in the next day he will keep moving and soon maybe eat!
thanks for the help everyone.
will keep updated.

Mine is at 86 constant!!! I never put my tank below 82

my silvers are in the 80-82 range and my black aro is kept 84-86 range(housed with discus)
