Fin rot is gradual, tail drop syndrome is when part or the whole tail completely drops off the Aro at the base all at one go. Why this happens and under what kind of conditions and how come only some Aros suddenly suffer from this not common but very odd condition is quite the enigma. The good news is the tail will very likely grow back, the bad news is most of the time it will never grow back to its past glory.

Salt, no feeding and maintaining good water quality seems to work without need for further medication. Patience is needed for the regrowth period.
Thank you sooo much
After reading this it gave me such a relief!

You have to keep in mind when the tail eventually goes back that it might very well be less than prefect and might require some "cosmetic surgery". Also the healing process will depend on your vigilant monitoring of the water quality.

i think you got broken tail when got this rtg rather than fin rot ... fin rot would eat up the whole tail gradually , leaving a delicate whitish strands

I guess when the lfs guy caught it in the net he must have hurt the tail! Hope it grows ASAP!

Think about it, when you break your bone or even fracture it, does your limps fall off? It's not a injury, tail drop syndrome however rare does happen. Google it and there is mention of it in several other forums and articles regarding Arowana sickness and diseases.

It's not a fin rot, the LFS guys didn't good job to get the fish out of it tank, I'm pretty sure that LFS dude just net it out and put it in the bag and the tail damahe during that process and felt off in the OP tank. Using net to catch Asian arowana = it's a no no and show those LFS is not just a immature sellers in this hobby.

don't catch aro with net ... you catch it with double/triple layered big plastic bag and yes it can be pain in the ass try to catch it , but it is much safer to the aro
