After losing an arowana to a stomach problem that I associated was food related and seeing others have similar problems it got me thinking. What if I made a BIG pellet for some of our very large fish and maybe even try marketing it. Well my first batch is pretty much done but I ran into a problem.

first I will tell you my idea for a pellet. I took

frozen salmon (Protien and pigmentation)
frozen beefheart (protien)
frozen peas (aid in digestion)
hardboiled egg (all sorts of nutrients)
dried crickets (pigmentaion and other stuff)
dried krill (same as above)
fish oil (omegas and other vitamins)
spirulina powder (all around wonder food)
garlic (anti parasite)
cornstarch (binder)

I will keep the amounts a secret:naughty:

My problem is, you can't get it "pellet dry" unless you freeze dry it. It just drys out to a certain point. It's kind of like really dry beef jerky. the total cost would be about $35.00 a pound and the pellets size that I made this run are about 1/2" in diameter and about 1" long. I was thinking about vacuum sealing them and then offering them for sale. I was just wondering is there any interest in these or am I just wasting my time. My aro has already eaten a couple but I haven't offered much at this point because it's not his normal feeding time. they float very well and take FOREVER to dissolve in water.

let me know what you all think. thanks

come on people I need some input here!!!

I would like to give them a shot. Maybe I could get my perch to eat pellets too!

Will the get sucked into a HOB overflow?

Sounds like good ingredients. Omega One uses whole salmon as a main ingredient. I would be interested to try your pellets, but the cost would be prohibitive to anyone with a great deal of fish or not a great deal of money.

it will get stuck to it but they are to big to go into it. I had one float in the tank for 20 mins before I removed it. It was still very much in tact and was still floating.

I am working on the cost, trying to fine tune the ingredients and find some of them in bulk. I hope to lower the cost quite a bit but it's still in planning.

if anyone has some pellet trained fish and would like to try them I would be willing to send some of them. I only have enough for a very small amount and I will send them for free.

If you could make them in a smaller pellet size I would love to try them out for my pickerel. I need some variation in his diet. All he eats right now is hikari gold and shrimp....occassionally wild food.
