So I woke up this morning and noticed my fahaka has ich, I've had him for 2 months and always seemed healthy. This is the first time I've ever had to deal with ich in my aquarium in 10 plus years. What would be the best way to treat my baby? He has a few other tank mates and only one other fish has signs on it too, just barely tho.
I know people say no tank mates with a fahaka but I'm kind of experimenting. I assume if I get him around a bunch of fish now he might get used to the idea of them being around. I have 7 tiger barbs, pleco, picctus catfish (showing ich), yoyo loach, 4 zebra tetras, African leaf fish, and a ghost knifefish. He gets along with all of them to my surprise. Doesn' try to nip at them or anything. I have them in a 100 flat back hex tank (for now) have a 225 in the garage I'm working on for them in the future.

Young fahaka are well know for getting ick as they adapt to the new aquarium, and it can take months for fully acclimatise from the wild. I would just turn the heat up a few degrees (to increase the life cycle if the parasite) and treat with a normal medication. Fahaka are a lot tougher than many think and he should bounce back fine.

As far as having him with other fish, have a look at my thread ‘fahaka in a community tank’ for what I have learned from my experiments.. but be prepared to get slated! I did lol

Good to hear, thanks for the tip. Just checked out your post on the community and you literally did everything I thought of doing so hopefully I get lucky.

So my baby fahaka seems to be getting words. The medication doesn't seem to be helping. He's to the point where he won't eat and the ich is more noticeable. HELP

Ahh that’s getting serious.. sorry this has got about out of my direct experience. Hopefully someone else will chime in or put this in the disease section of specialist advice. Sorry I can’t help more dude

No problem man, thanks. I did a big water change today (60%) and tried a different medication, bought different food to try to get him interested in the food too. He is swimming around a lot still and seems ok. Just really worried since he hasn't ate in 2 days

Post some water parameters. What meds have u used? What’s strength of medication have u used, full dose?

Water parameters

Ammonia - 0
PH - 7.7
Nitrates - 5 ppm
Nitrites - 0 ppm
Temp up to 85 - 86

First tried (Imagitarium parasite remedy) full dose according to instructions

Now tried (Marineland Ick Remedy) full dose according to instructions.

This is my first time ever dealing with ich in 10 plus years so just reading online. Thanks in advance for any help. I would be heartbroken if I lost my Fahaka.

Well cont with the Marineland ich treatment since already on it. Would follow the directions for the medication.

Been on this new medication for 12 hours and it seems to be helping already. I finally got him to eat something. He didn't pig out like he normally does but at least he ate something now
