My 20" black knocked him self out yesterday.

I was reaching for the food on top of the tank and he must've saw me out of the corner of his eye and got spooked. He went to swim away and plowed head first into the side of the tank. He then just sank head first to the bottom of the tank. I thought he was done for, but he was still breathing. However, he can't stay upright, nor swim.

I held him for over an hour in the water flow. Keeping him centered. I then rigged up a tshirt to hold him. He stayed like this all night until I went to bed at 11pm. He was still breathing, so I left him be.

This morning, he was nose down in the bottom, but still breathing. I picked him back up put him back in his tshirt swaddling. He seems to still be kicking. Also, this morning when I picked him up, I could feel him trying to move, but he's very weak.

Sorry for the crappy cell pic. Is there anything else I can do for him? I really don't want to lose this guy.

is his back broken? looks bent from the pic but might just be the way he is suspended. if it's broke then the poor fish is done for, what a shame for such an amazing fish. got one very similar size and often spooks like yours has but has never had suck an adverse effect, just the odd scale lost and a few scratches that soon heal.

not much else you can do i'd imagine other than nurse it best as possible and do a lot of praying! good luck

Is there a way I can check his back?

He is bent in a little from being in the tshirt, but when I hold him he stays straight. I just didn't want the tshirt to cover his gills. Maybe I should move it up further so its not stressing his back?

I felt him trying to twist this morning. I guess that's a good sign.

A good luck bump, lots of traffic in aro forum this kinda got burried.

Hope your aro can recover from this.

Only time will tell, i recommend you not to alter the water in any form. I got a srt that did the same thing. She was laying on her side for 2wk until she fully heal. I think he just ram his head too hard and trying to recover.
