My black aro is broken, help please!

Well, since you can't ask him to wiggle his toes....you could test to see if he still feels pain down at the taill. I think he'll let you know. If he can't feel pain, his back is broken. below the point where the feeling stops. Probably do more harm than good, but I can't think of another way short of X-ray. This particular solution does not minimize suffering, so I hesitate to even suggest it.

The fact that he twitches and wiggles gives me hope. One thing is for sure, if he does pull through, he will no doubt be my favorite fish.

Nothing positive. He's looking more and more fragile. I tried playing with his tail to see if he would respond, but nothing. He does seem to slope downward a bit, but just slightly. His body seems very stiff though, and other than a twitch, there's no movement.

He still looks around and breathes through his gills. He is opening and closing his mouth on occasion too.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to put him down.

No doubt. I hope for the best but I also hope him not to suffer for much longer if it is his back. I dont envy the position you are in right now, very hard decision to make
Good luck

Kyle

Good luck. If it was mine I would keep him in the sling until he dies or gets better. Try to keep everything else the same, normal water changes and make sure the other fish are fed so they don't mess with him and so on.
Crossing fingers your buddy pulls through.
