I know but there are not as many eggs as I would have suspected. My neighbors oscars spawned and there were 10 times as many eggs but they were smaller. My eggs are larger. It is cute they chase away the pleco that is twice their size. The female is busy digging a pit. Does this mean that the eggs are going to be wigglers soon? I am new to breeding cichlids. My krib pair spawned and they acted differently - they didn't dig a pit and ate their babies.
Mouth brooders are way different in parenting skills. You should have wrigglers in a few days and free swimmers in 5 or 6. Given that your pair is small, the batch is equally small. When they put on size those numbers will increase as will their skills as parents. Nothing will mess with a breeding pair usually. But make sure the pleco is kept out of the tank until the babies are free swimming for a few days. Plecos eat eggs at night when the parents let down their guard.
The mom will more than likely be obsessed with rounding up her babies for the first few days and might not eat.. this is normal so feed lightly to avoid waste. Good Luck!
