My Carpintis spawned !!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok I siphoned out around 20 babies. I will try to get more tomorrow I just don't want to freak the parents out too much.... I still didn't even siphon out half of the babies I have......

Don't worry about the parents. They will be fine. I am moving my mommy back into her main tank and away from her babies today.

so the babies are out foraging with the parents... My pleco has been beat up and the babies I took out have formed two distinct groups. Everyone is doing well and I am feeding them first bites three times a day. When are they big enough to go on to crushed flake?

In about one month they can bite into baby bites from Hikari. It is really important that they are on good food. After first bites keep them on Hikari, or HBH supersoft with krill. I also feed FD bloodworms and shrimp pellets to mine daily. I don't have to break up anything anymore. They also get vegetables here and there and market shrimp. Give them a variety and they will grow fast.

How long should I keep the fry with the parents? Like I mentioned before I have half the fry with parents and half in a ten gallon. I have a thirty that they can go in temporalily when they get bigger but they have to be bigger than bite sized I have peaceful fish there that won't harass them.

Any time now would be fine. They will be harder to catch if you wait longer... it is a major pain in the arse. Especially if you have rocks in your tank for them to dig into.

Will they survive if I leave them? I already have like 50 in the ten. Will the parents ignore them after awhile?

As they grow, the parents will want to spawn again. This is how babies get eaten. They eat the little fry to make room for the new batch. Or the other tank mates will eat them. If you want to keep most of them, move them.
