thanks Dan. Contemplated selling the istlanum too so I wouldn't have to worry about live fish while moving. Almost did last week but couldn't bring myself to do it. So looks like he's probably coming with me.Jealous,

How far are you moving? I moved from the UK to Germany with a 13 inch oscar and back again two years later, wasn't to bad.thanks Dan. That is a good idea as well, I know fish can go days in a box if packed well. I used to work at a LFS and our shipments were not all overnighted. But might be easier to just make 2 trips. I will figure it out last minute most likely hahaSounds like a good plan. I took mine to a koi breeder who used to export, bagged and boxed him up, assured me he was good for 24 hrs which he was.
Congrats, they are really awesome fish. They are pretty aggressive to each other but I think keeping them in a small group in at least a 55 or 75 is the way to go. I had the group of 6 (eventually 4- one died one jumped) in a 5' 70ish gallon tank, and there was typical chasing but they didn't do much damage to each other. The one that was killed was a "runt" much smaller than the others.Gourami Swami
Any particular tips on the Panamensis? I just bought 5@ about .5" and love the look of your adults. How are they aggression wise prior to pairing up?

When I sold the 2 extras to only keep the pair, the male turned very aggressive to the female. They were in a 90 gallon tank at that point (only cichlids in there) and he harassed her for a while, then I went away on a trip and she was dead when I came back. So even after you get a pair I would keep your whole group, to protect the female. My pair spawned a few times successfully when they were all together as a group.
Now the alpha male is living in a 45 gal planted community with rasboras, swordtails, ottos, other little things. And he doesn't bother anything. Really only mean to other cichlids.
I'm sure they will, good luck with them! Where did you find yours btw? Been thinking about getting more to try for another female for the male.I currently have them in a 75g with some similarly sized A. Kanna and 4 larger Rainbows. Hoping they turn out even close to yours!
