Great thread. Just read through all of it. You have some beautiful Cons, and I'm interested to see if the two little ones make it. I had a nice sized male Con (about 4.5") who was a monster. But then he decided to the wander into the Texas' territory and got killed. My Tex is not one to mess with. But I do have a female growing out in a 55 with 6 Firemouths. She's already showing her oranges and greens. Good luck to you!

Yeah, I did not see the two little ones when I got home tonight, They may just be hiding. There is a new batch of fry in the tank so if they are smart they are laying low.

Update:

The female's fin is almost fully healed from the looks of it, I wouldn't have guessed it would heal that well.

Here is a full shot of her with some of the latest fry, they new fry will be removed during the weekly WC tomorrow, hopefully that will "reset" the pair and I won't have the male go into a violent episode.

Great thread congrats on the latest spawn!

Thanks, I am glad people are enjoying it.

Update:

After the abuse that took place, I decided it would be a good idea to separate the two love-birds with a divider. So I siphoned the fry and put in a cheap petco divider, which I might add, was poor in quality and I should have done a DiY with egg crate but alas.

It worked as far as aggression, but it made both of them sulk for about 48 hours. They turned pale and moped around the bottom couple of inches of the tank, only coming higher in the water column to eat, then back to being melancholy.

I got some pics of them being moody. The male lost all his bars he was so bummed:

The camera flash makes his bars look gold. In person he was pretty much grey all over

And the female, who I assumed would be cheery to be away from her aggressor, not the case:

I removed the separator, did a water change, and they went into prespawn behavior within 24hrs. Got some good pics of the female looking quite gravid and ready to lay down some eggs, will post in a moment.

Here they were last night, colored right back up, flaring and swimming around each other.

I need to clean my filter intake.... :(

They laid a big clutch of eggs on a piece of driftwood, I decided to pull the piece of DW out and cull the eggs. I am thinking about adding some swordtails as dithers in the next week or so. I want them to have a little time before the spawn again. It may get ugly
