My condolences. It is indeed a tragedy.
However, I must agree with what seems to be the minority here. A big deal need not be made of 63 shots fired. A group of cops responding to an armed person are going to react independently and immediately. Theyre not snipers, theyre going to open fire. Also how many rounds impacted? Sometimes youre firing to suppress or distract a target to save someone else. A cops pistol versus a man, possibly with cover, armed with a rifle? Not going to be a one shot deal. peoples anger reminds me of two simillar cases here in california recently. In downtown LA all kinds of people were protesting after the cops shot a guy armed with a knife that was threatening people. Everyone was saying they didnt have to shoot him, they could shoot it out of his hands , shoot him in the leg and other such crazy comments.
Well last week in another part of california a cop didnt shoot a drugged up man with a knife. he got stabbed in the chest and went for an ambulance ride - a bystander had to render first aid to save him. Gee maybe he wouldve shot him if people werent rioting over the other case.
Yes this shooting is a tragedy and I do understand the pain and loss involved. My heart goes out to you and your family. but wrath against the police will not help.
It is very easy for people to second guess after the fact and say what the cops shouldve done, but you have to realize the spontaneity of the situation and realize that this situation could have been more tragic had he hit anyone with his rifle.
Im now standing by to get flamed for this post.
My deepest condolences.
