I take it you dont shoot. I shoot MUCH more then your average cop. Im not saying Im a good shoot, I'm far from it. Under controlled range conditions hitting a small target is very hard. In a life or death situation its impossible. Aim for the biggest target, dont stop until mag is empty/threat is eliminated.

I value human life more than anything. If I had to choose to club to death every panda left in the world to save one crackhead, I would. I cant imagine how much pain the OP and his family are in. However we must look at the cops as well. I bet you every one of them would rather have not taken a young life, especially one that was temporarily altered perhaps because of drugs. You think these cops went home and slept like a baby that night?

Its a terrible tragedy for all involved and they all deserve our thoughts and prayers.

I know what you are saying, however, I have had several cop friends. Most were good, a few brag constantly about this stuff and have no remorse. I think it may be more of a tough California town thing, I get a lot of out of state ppl no believing this. Im not saying CA cops are bad, I just think they are not always as careful as they should be here with who they train. They are still regular ppl just like the rest of us, not angels. I do indeed feel bad though as well for the officers involved that truly felt this situation.

Here is his obituary in case ppl want to get a bit of an idea what he was about. If not no big deal, like I said, just venting out a bit, though I am much closer to his parents, I admired so much that he did. I wish I could say his father was pulling it together but he is so bad, and the funeral is monday, I feel sometimes its too soon to have to plan all of that and be around that many ppl but thats how it goes.

Very sorry... so tragic ..

Im really sorry for your loss, i know what its like to loose someone :( My condolences to you and your family and may he rest in peace.

My condolences. It is indeed a tragedy.
However, I must agree with what seems to be the minority here. A big deal need not be made of 63 shots fired. A group of cops responding to an armed person are going to react independently and immediately. Theyre not snipers, theyre going to open fire. Also how many rounds impacted? Sometimes youre firing to suppress or distract a target to save someone else. A cops pistol versus a man, possibly with cover, armed with a rifle? Not going to be a one shot deal. peoples anger reminds me of two simillar cases here in california recently. In downtown LA all kinds of people were protesting after the cops shot a guy armed with a knife that was threatening people. Everyone was saying they didnt have to shoot him, they could shoot it out of his hands , shoot him in the leg and other such crazy comments.
Well last week in another part of california a cop didnt shoot a drugged up man with a knife. he got stabbed in the chest and went for an ambulance ride - a bystander had to render first aid to save him. Gee maybe he wouldve shot him if people werent rioting over the other case.

Yes this shooting is a tragedy and I do understand the pain and loss involved. My heart goes out to you and your family. but wrath against the police will not help.
It is very easy for people to second guess after the fact and say what the cops shouldve done, but you have to realize the spontaneity of the situation and realize that this situation could have been more tragic had he hit anyone with his rifle.

Im now standing by to get flamed for this post.

My deepest condolences.

gonna have to disagree.

63 shots is very obcessive. No reason for that many shots. None. If they had to fire that many times to subdue a subject they need to go to the fireing range a hell of alot more.
