Your tanks cloudiness may be tannins from the wood, did you buy that driftwood or just snag it outside? Also, if you have decor in your other tank take it out and drop it in this tank for a couple weeks. The kind of bacteria you want takes 2 weeks to reproduce, when I start a new tank used plants, substrate, and filter media go in then a single cheapo fish to help seed. 2 weeks later I start adding fish one every couple days.

Since you took the tilapia out the bio load of one bichir should be fine for the cycle, the ammonia shouldn't spike too high and w/ the plants and such you have your bichir will be just fine!!

That tank will probably last it a few more inches, bichirs like yours (endlicheri is a lower jaw bichir) get beefy pretty quickly. My buddy has an endli that has gone from the size of yours to about 8-9 inch and thick enough to eat a full grown molly in a year!

Tank looks fine to me, you can leave it that way. Your bichir is still adjusting to his/her new home, Give it about a week, you won't catch your bichir chasing the feeder because they are nocturnal they use their sense of smell when hunting during night time in which they are active. Try to cover the entire tank with a dark cloth and turn off the light for a day, that should let him/her settle.

thanks man. yeah, i noticed tht he's more active at night. and fyi, my tank has sprung a leak last night. damn ! i put it in my 65 with a divider on it becuz i dont trust my oscar.

those driftwoods i picked from the a nearby river yesterday. sure of course but since my tank leaked i'll be moving him in the 65 for a while. i need to silicone my tank once more. and yeah, he's doing fine now, eating but doesnt move much. lol
really? i thought bichirs reach tht size for yrs. i have to be ready then, i have an empty 100g though.

You will never see him chase because they are ambush predators

lol i know tht, but i dont think my fries are getting near to him, and my bichir only eats the earthworms in a position tht he can see it. but other than tht, he just leaves it like tht. i though bichirs were suppose to have great food-detect ability.

hey guys, are these normal bichir behaviours?

this is him, motionless, just hanging on a plant?

and this is when he lift up his body like tht for a few minutes and then go back lying there like he always do.
do your bichirs do this all the time? is this usual? but he do the hanging-on-a- plant part most.

Check the disease and treatment sticky thread, none of mine have ever gotten sick *knock on wood* but when my buddys baby endli got sick it literally didnt leave the same spot in a long time and didnt eat
