I actually have a 90g red belly tank, and I use amazon swords, java ferns, and java moss on a rock. I also have a large sunken tube looking thing that they hide in, what size P's were you going to get? if your starting with dime size like I did I'd say 3-5 of them would work fine.

ill post pics of my current setup, uses fake plants and real.

I was thinking of starting with 4 or 5 small ones. Exact size depends on local availability. I don't want to jump right into shipping rare and expensive piranha. Might go that route after we have proven we can maintain the more commonly avaliabel ones.

Chaz, that's awesome! Congrats to you and your daughter! Did you end up with the 90g from MCA?

I have a single RBP and things are going well. I don't claim to be an expert though and will leave those responses to the more experienced members. My tank is pretty basic in design, but looks good. I have a resin holey rock, a small piece of driftwood and several live and fake plants. He doesn't mess with the plants at all. This tank is temporary until he grows out a bit more:

Good luck to you!

Yes, it is Scott's 90 from MCA. Thank you for pointing me over there! They don't have as much sense of humor or activity as MFK but are a nice group of knowledgeable people and run a nice site with good for sale deals for the Midwest. Scott was a pleasure to meet in person and has a very nice fish room. I also plugged him a bit about taking a look at MFK.

I like the look of your RBP tank and will brow some ideas.

current setup, this pic is two weeks old, I did add another amazon sword to the right side.

Nice look! I think we will end up with something similar, but probably with some floating plants.

I also have rbp tank. It is 95 gallons with 6 adults it is an amazon tank with some random plants and a 3d tree trunk backround. Im actually trying to sell them i want to do a community tank. Here is a pic

Just get your parents hooked on fish keeping. Then they can use your repeated requests for your own tank design as an excuse to get you more involved and add another tank to the household collection. :)

Thanks for the plant recommendations. Do those do well in low to medium light levels?

A solo piranha is fine.... For a 90g tank I would suggest getting 6 especially if you have a canister filter. Water wisteria and Cabomba are really easy to grow plants.

what do you mean repeated requests? i dont honestly repeat my questions i might on here to double check lol but um on the plants id say 50/50 on the plants in a sense um amazon swords do best with slightly acidic cause pH is 6.5 to a base to 7..does bests in 12 hours of light..and java moss needs low light so does java ferns..now java moss is a really fast grower especially if its not in low light..um but java fern needs low light to and it is a slow grower..so thats what i can say on 3 plants for aquascaping the 90Gallon..;)

Thanks for the plant info. I was not saying you asked repeat questions. LoL It was a backhanded comment that, as a parent hooked on fish keeping, I used my daughters repeated requests for her own tank as an excuse to involve her more in fish keeping and add another tank to the house.:)

Funny how even though I only answer to myself I still find excuses to justify what I want to do.:screwy:

with 90g you can start with more than just 3 rbps, 6-8 would be a good start just make sure you keep water parameters in check.
as for plants most low light plants will work unless you have T5 HO or MH, other lights will be in the low light range or barely have enough light for your tank due to the height of the tank. with amazon sword, it feeds heavily from the root, good fert tabs would be needed. if cared properly it can get HUGE.

I was wanting to go with lower light plants and light fixture for budget reasons and because I was thinking that piranha prefer lower light. What would you recommend for lighting? I don't want to mess with MH or high pressure sodium, but would spring for t5 or similar if it would work better.

Wish the price of the new LED technology would come down, would make the energy cost and heat dissipation feasible for just about any light output you want.
